I thought I would be fun to write and shoot a Bob Dylan parody, so the result is this tune:
Bob Dylan Parody - Something They'd Never Seen

You can see the original video here
Original Dylan video

Lyrics:

Something They'd Never Seen -- © 2014 John C. Phillips

Marmalade monkey near the widow shade
Ballerina with a hand grenade
Riding the sky on a silver bus
But they could not know what they'd chosen
'Cause their thoughts were decomposing
Like old talk in a gum machine
But they would walk toward something they'd never seen

The King and Queen and a couple of jesters
Wearing cotton capes and polyesters
Judged the crowd with their afterthoughts
But exactly what were they thinking
Mussolini or more like Lincoln
An old flintlock and a new prom queen
But they would walk toward something they'd never seen

But if you wear glasses sight is delayed
And you cannot tell you been betrayed
By the puppet master in the TV box
Argyle socks
Someone change the locks

The rusty wrench keeps on bleeding
It's a garden but it sure ain't Eden
Rosemary's got no thyme at the wishing well
'Cause wishes they are always frowning
Try to swim but nearly drowning
Dog paddle rock so serene
But they still walk toward something they'd never seen

But if you wear glasses sight is delayed
And you cannot tell you been betrayed
By the TV anchor in the cable box
Celery stalks
Living in Fort Knox

Soulful sister can't be like them
She'll live at 33 RPM
'Cause vinyl makes her feel that certain way
All the notes that she been hearing
Resonate and reappearing
In blue Woodstock and the in between
But they still walk toward something they never seen

Tracks are:
Me on vocal and harmonica
Midi Bass
Midi B3

Hey John.
Loved that! Well done. I still don't understand what the hell Dylan is trying to say. Well sung and well produced. Good job on the video!!

Good job.... those lyrics made just as much sense as some of Zimmies lyrics did....

The style was dead on to Dylan.

Now that was fun! I've been a major league Dylan fan since I first heard him in the early sixties. I spent a lot of time back then trying to posit meaning on some of his lyrics.....so look out....I may be able to interpret yours. I gotta forward this to some friends. Very cool.

SpaceDog: I'm glad you liked it. Thanks

Guenter: Thanks for listening. I always enjoy your very inventive tunes.

Bob: Glad you enjoyed the tune. I think your songs sometimes have a nice Dylan-like quality.

Joanne: Someday we'll figure out the lyrics. The whole project, from writing to shooting was fun. Glad you enjoyed it.

Herb: I was hoping to get close to his '65 style. Good to hear you think it matched pretty well. Thanks for listening.

Bud: I was first introduced to Dylan in '62 - when I was 10 - and my mother bought his first album. She bought all of them through '66 and I picked up after that. Thanks for listening.

Sonny Ray: I enjoyed making it. Glad you liked it.

John, very well done throughout. I loved it!

I seriously suggest you submit it to Seattle DJ Bob Rivers or Joe Bryant. Bob produces parody compilations called "Twisted Tunes" and Don Jr's CCR parodies are on every album.

I can give Bob's email address, if you're interested. Perhaps Joe would be the better bet.

PM me if you want Bob and/or Jo's personal emails.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, 'tis said!

John,

Very clever!

If, as Charles Caleb Colton says, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", then Bob Dylan should be highly flattered.

Great stuff!

Like those lyrics. They almost make sense somehow. And the midi bass seems perfect for this one. Good fun. Cheers.
