Hi, friends !:)) Have had some weird dreams that I just had to turn to a song. I hope that it is going to be easier now as I got it out of me ? Who knows ?:)) In any case I fell for this style: BAYOU.Sty Med st. 8ths style. As usual I am uncertain with the mix but am taking the risk ! Recorded and mixed in mixcraft 6 Vocals thru zoom H4n to mixcraft. Hope you´ll like the combination C9sus,c2, C9sus,F2 ? Cheers Dani http://app.box.com/s/ewyuahpi2aeu3xtb55yyInstruments used: Bass: 1 Finger El Bass Piano: 1 Ac Piano Drums: Realdrums Country Even 8 Guitar: 26 Ac Guitar Strings: 28 Clean El Guitar Soloist: 2003 Pedal Steel Country Paul Ev 165 Lyrics; I Love You (by Dani) I took a stroll down memory lane I´m goin´back to when I met you, my dear it doesn´t matter if there´s sunshine or rain because there´s nothing left for me to fear You came to me in a wonderful sight and you seemed to me to be so real I tried to talk to you through the light but I just could not open the seal I couldn´t open the seal So I said that I love you it was as simple as that when you knew it was true so I said that, I love you and suddenly the spell on you just vanished too There we were just the two of us in another time, another space I still recall how we wondered thus and I looked upon your lovely face I saw the love light in your eyes as I held you oh so tight never had another dream that nice as I loved you all through the night all through the night And I said that I love you it was as simple as that when you knew it was true so I said that, I love you and suddenly the spell on you just vanished too solo Still a shiver passes through my mind trying to reach that juvenile goal when I relive the time left behind with every fibre of my body and soul I´m a tossin´and a turnin´ around this dream is keepin´me awake soon I´m gonna hit the ground please release me for heaven’s sake for heavens´s sake And now I say that I love you it is as simple as that when you know it is true so I say that, I love you and suddenly the spell on you just vanished too And so I say that I love you it is as simple as that when you know it is true so I say that, I love you and suddenly the spell on you just vanished too ©Dani Lindroos 2014 I am dedicating this song to my good friend Dean Clark as a response to him doing the same with Blue Ooze !:)) Oops ! Just realized Dean probably ment the plumber, but that´s okay ! The dedication stays as is !:)) Cheers Dani

Hi Dani What a super song. I love the "hook" in the chorus and, yes, I like the C9sus, C2 in the verse. I think the mix is absolutely fine and the voices and doubled voices and harmonies work very well. Cheers ian

Another nice tune Dani, good thought provoking lyrics. Very interesting - as usual.
Thanks for sharing

Dani,
A very enjoyable listen. Channeling that Bacharach thing, I think..
The chorus is especially nice - terrific harmonies. Interesting effect with the lead vocal doubled (did you sing both - it's quite tight!).
The mix is very good. Although it seems that you are lowering the drums during the verses. I don't think you need to. They start out at a good level (intro) - and seem to have that same (good) level during the choruses - and seem to drop during each verse....
You are a songwriting machine.

Hi, Floyd !!
....and thank you for your kind comments and good advice !:)) The problem with the drums is that when I add more vocals in the mix the instruments tend to go down especially the drums.
You are right, I did sing the lead twice and panned them on either side,so it is not the lead copied and panned. I think one can hear the difference here and there even if they are pretty tight as you say !:))
I do not feel like a songwriting machine (chuckle) ! I have my hands full trying to hang on to all ye other real songwriters !:))
Cheers Dani

Dani,
That seems an odd thing... your drums change volume themselves when vocals are added? Is that some kind of Mixcraft setting (again, seems like something you would not want if it exists). The verse drums are now about right, but the rest - which were right before - are a bit too loud - especially the drums fills - they get really loud.
I assume you have volume envelopes in Mixcraft - you could use them to set the sections (verse, chorus, fills) to differing levels (if, in fact, the software is doing some kind of "compensation" on the drums as vocals occur...)
Don't want to mess you up - the original mix is good - just that the up and down of drum level is "noticeable" - like it is being manipulated...

Cheers Dani Hi Dani Like many others here, I often start out in BiaB, get a melody sitting somewhere where I want it to be - more or less, then move it to Real Band to do all the fine tuning, add further tracks, get the balance right, regenerate only certain sections of a track, and more. Real Band has many more features, and is surprisingly easy to use once you take a short time to become acquainted. The tip that works for me: Once in Real Band, save it as a SEQ file and keep moving forward with that file in Real Band, don't try to take it back to BiaB once you've done any real work in Real Band, reverse engineering back to BiaB is usually not practical. Give it a try, just be prepared to be a bit patient at first. Cheers Trevor

Cheers Dani That'll be a WINNER! Videotrack is right - RB will take a little getting used to as I find it a little idiosyncratic after using Cakewalk for 10 years, but it IS the way to go. I keep having a little play with it and am slowly getting more comfortable. cheers ian

Hi Dani, another super production, however I have a "but", and is about the melody vocals, they are fine, however they come a little "too separated" on the stereo spectrum, at least on my headphones and also maybe it could be a little lower volume in relation to the background (which is a fine one). I loved the progression and the fine chorus you created. Keep in mind that I'm no expert in mixing whatsoever, so my opinion is only an observation on how it sound thru my headphones.
Take care
Mike B.

Not trying to dissuade anyone from using/learning RealBand - it is astounding to think that with BIAB, you also get a full-blown DAW... But... I believe Dani has been using Mixcraft (and doing a fine job!) and from what I have seen, it seems like a nice DAW (especially for the price)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJPe1DwXPuE It has volume envelopes (automation) - so my question is... why not use that to get the drum levels sounding even... Learning a new DAW can be a daunting task - I recently switched from Sony Acid Pro to Presonus Studio One (Pro). It took several full-blown productions to get comfortable (I am really liking it, btw! - highly recommend it)...

Hi Dani,
I like the chords and harmonies as always. Beautiful song. (Only nit: try not to cut the steel in the ending).

You frequently have really interesting chord changes. That's cool.
It's a nice song.

Hi, guys (Trevor and Ian) !
Thank you for you kind com ments !
I will try to start experimenting with realband but it is exactly as Floyd says later here, that I am quite used to use mixcraft and so it will take a good time for me to use realband on a broader level ?
Cheers Dani

Dear Mike !
Thank you so much for your most kind comments. You may be absolutely right with the mix. It seems to be a problem that what comes out fairly okay with certain headphones can come out completely differently with others ? I have experienced that frequently and I am not 100 % sure any more with my own headphones or hearing either for that matter ??? :)) Lol ! Our barbershop chorus director constantly keeps telling me I am too low singing bass though, I think he takes the root sound from the higher register of the note he is blowing)?
Cheers Dani
