Thinking about upgrading from 2012 to the 2014 Mega Pak - would appreciate some honest opinions - is it 'worth' the $150? I play (piano) & do mostly smooth jazz/standards.
Thanks....

I have found that having all styles and realtracks/realdrums available is very useful.

No matter your chosen genre, there are far too many instances where a style or realtrack from another genre actually fits well with a songfile I'm working up that is not listed as being that particular genre.

On top of that, one can really get the creative juices flowing by listening to and practicing along with those "other" genres, whatever they happen to be, and can find ways to fit what is learned into our own playing in our chosen genre.

Get as much as you can afford.

.
2012 to 2014 is a pretty big jump. You will get a lot of new features and new Realtracks, plus Supertracks, plus SampleTank, plus Performance tracks, plus the new GUI, if I remember the features sequence correctly. Its a lot. Very much worth it.

IMO? Yes. Not just for the new styles, but many new operational features, and a much better User Interface.

I find the GUI of 2014 much better than in previous versions. However, be aware that this version is restricted to One computer which I find un necessarily restrictive. Registration only on one computer is required thru internet.

I believe that information is not entirely accurate.

The software can be installed on up to 3 different computers, and a license can be moved to a different computer, e.g. if you upgrade your computer. The product license can be managed automatically via an Internet connection, or manually by contacting support.

I didn't find this to be restrictive at all. I've got it installed on two computers, and have a spare license up my sleeve. And I completely understand that PG Music are simply protecting their product from potential piracy.

It's really not a restrictive feature.

Regards
Trevor

I find the above comments to be very true.

I'm mixing my second tune with BIAB (v2012.5 - re-doing vocals today) and the rhythm tracks I used were in a different genre that I expected.
It can take some time to find what one is looking for but (IMO) it will pay off.

Carry on....

As VideoTrack correctly explained, this version is not restricted to one computer. You have three activations, and can deactivate and move an activation to another PC.

Also, registration is NOT "required through the Internet". I have one computer that is not connected to the Internet. I was able to generate a number during installation that I sent to PG Music Support, who emailed back the registration code I needed.

Finally, PG Music has stated here that, if you run into a situation where activation causes a problem, you can call them and explain.

This is perhaps the least onerous of the many copy-protection schemes that are out there.

Bax, what did you read that made you think otherwise?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
