VOCAL RANGE I never expected to see the name at the top of the list...... I seriously thought #2 would have been #1. Who woulda thought it? Interesting stuff

I'd always heard that David Clayton-Thomas from Blood Sweat and Tears had a 5 octave range, but I don't even see his name on the list. but, if I heard it through the grapevine, it must be true, right? You're right, Herb.. that is an interesting list!

but, if I heard it through the grapevine, it must be true, right? it just occurred to me that prior to the internet the grapevine was THE source for authoritative info wonder how it's coping with the competition

Interesting list of comparisons.
I'm embarrassed....my perception of my own singing voice (figure of speech only) is that of a dull chain saw with a 0.5 octave range on a good day.
Carry on....

Until I saw this piece I thought Yma Sumac held the title. The thing you heard in those 40s and 50s horror films that you thought was a Theremin? That was Yma. Yma Sumac was a Peruvian soprano. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music. She became an international success based on her extreme vocal range, which was said to be "well over four octaves" and was sometimes claimed to span even five octaves at her peak. Yma Sumac recorded an extraordinarily wide vocal range of slightly over four octaves from B2 to C♯7. She was able to sing notes in the low baritone register as well as notes above the range of an ordinary soprano. Both low and high extremes can be heard in the song Chuncho. She was also apparently able to sing in an eerie "double voice". (From Wikipedia) "Chuncho"

I would love to see those 'famous' singers that have the NARROWEST ranges. Who would you put on that list ?
Mark Knopfler, Jethro Tull (Ian Anderson) Bruce Springstein

Interesting that John Lennnon & Elvis had exactly the same range, B1 to A5

I guess they don't include falsetto, otherwise Frankie Valli, Del Shannon, Mike Love and Tiny Tim would have made the list.
Actually, not Tiny Tim :-)
Cheers, Keith

I'm fairly certain he sang only one note all night. the vocalist for the SMITHS seems to use the same 3 notes in every song. For that reason I have a hard time listening to their music, even though their guitar player is named MARR...

Biggest surprise to me was Barry White only going a half step below Bowie. Top end of that comparison doesn't surprise me, but the bottom did.

Hi, Herb ! I happen to know this guy (Tim Waurick), who sings 9 octaves here on Utube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsjLtKNLDNENow, to avoid any unnecessary discussion about fake, I can assure you that he really does it and should be on the top of the list, had it not been for the fact that he does not qualify as he is not from this planet and secondly, he is an amateur !!!!!!!! We barbershoppers are weird people !! Cheers Dani

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
