I wrote this around 2009,2010. It was a time when I didn't put the date on the documents. I didn't think it was important. What the heck was I thinking?

[Link no longer valid]

Anyway, there's no story to tell beyond the lyrics. It's all true. (was all true)

I played the lead guitar part with a fender strat direct in with guitar gig4 plug-in added after.

Realtracks:
Key=Db , Tempo 65

Style is _RNBFNKO.STY (RnB Rock w/ Funky Gtr&Org(65 RS))

RealTracks in style: 366:Bass, Electric, Country Ev 065
RealTracks in style: ~688:Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 065
RealTracks in style: 869:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ModernRnBRockWarmA-B Ev 065
RealDrums in style: RockModernRnB^01-a:Snare, Closed HiHat , b:Snare, Crash Ride

Thinking of you

Well I’m stoned drunk again
Walking home alone once again
And I’m thinking, I’m thinking of you

And I try, yes I do to control the things I do
But you’re like a vice that I just can't lose

And I wonder just how long/ I can survive, carry on
It’s like a cold, cold rain/ that never washes away the pain
That thunder calls, and I’m stone drunk again

So I remain the same
Night after night I never change
There’s nothing I can do to keep my self from
Thinking of you

And I wonder just how long/ I can survive, carry on
It’s like a cold, cold rain/ that never washes away the pain
That thunder calls, and I’m stone drunk again

Amazing!! I'm quickly becoming one of your biggest fans! Love the vibe. Love the emotion. Lyrics can tickle your brain or just hit you in the guts. Van Morrison always just hit me in the guts, and so does this. Great guitar also-I assume you played it. And, a killer vocal-I just bought an SM7b myself but I doubt it can make me sound as good as you. Great work! Take care. Greg

Al just took the words right out of my mouth. Also loved the organ in this one.

Lawrence,

Awesome. Great choice of RTs (or I guess BIAB Style, in this case).
A big full sound from just a small set of instruments - which means.. great job on the mix! Great vocal - as usual..

Always nice to hear a (seemingly) simple lyric that packs a wallop.
A song that sings...

I was hoping for a big Joe-Cocker-band reprise of the chorus at the end (with the girl singers and the horns)...

Nice.

Really nice job.

I got an Into the Mystic VM vibe from this in a few places....

I love that B3 pop even65 ... that is sweet. I use it a lot myself.

I really like the groove and the simplicity of this tune. It builds nicely throughout.

Well done.

Hi Lawrence,

good choice of RTs.
Nice gritty vocal and a great guitar solo.
It transports the mood of the lyrics
very well.

Great song Lawrence, you could sell this to Elvis Costello surely! It would fit him like a glove.
Super work all round.

Hi Lawrence. Love everything about this one too. Am hearing great songs on here this morning!! Can relate to your delightful lyrics. (from the past of course). Thunder calls and I'm stone drunk again.
Oh Yes!
The guitar and the organ really set it off. Another one I had to listen to 4 times! Cheers.

Edit - Reminds me of early George Thorogood!

Hello Lawrence,

As soon as you post a new song we are instantly curious!
We are a big fan of your voice. In this song however, we think it could've been mixed in slightly less loud, but that's just our opinion.
A very nice electric guitar solo by the way.
Keep those songs coming, we'll be listening!

Regards,
R & AM

Greg, thank you for the comments. Yes this is definitely a guts song. I did play the solo. In bits, I had to comp it as I haven't practiced playing in quite some time and my chops have suffered.

Al-David, glad you stopped in for a listen and liked what you heard.

JosieC, thank you. With so few instruments in the arrangement the organ was able to penetrate and shine.

floyd, thanks. The final tracks were a work of addition by subtraction. I first eliminated everything I had added to the original style and in the end I even deleted one of the rhythm guitars from the song style, which left guitar, organ, bass ,drums

(ps, send the girls over and I'll fire up the mics)

Guitarhacker, thank you. It was a bit tricky to build momentum with so few instruments but I'm happy to hear you think it worked.

Guenter, thank you. The RealTracks definitely fit the vibe of this one right off.

John, thanks. I hadn't thought of Costello but I agree with you

RichMac thank you. Yes there was a time when I lived those lyrics. But I'm happy now that it's in the past.

R&Am, thank you. I will keep the songs coming. After about a year of posting I have finally gotten to a group of songs that I've written over the last several years but never recorded. And thank you for the mixing note regarding the vocal maybe being to hot, I will listen for it.

There's a genre here in S. Louisiana they call 'Swamp Pop'. It's a blend of musical styles. That's how I'd describe this.
Great song, okay, your vocal sits 'perfectly' and it's perfectly sung. I was expecting a bigger finish, but this is a winner. No doubt about it.

Well done!!

p.s. The FM station just went to ESPN, but you can hear Swamp Pop on the AM dial. Here's a link:

Lawrence, Very soulful vocal. Really well sung. I like the sparse sound and B3 sounds great. This groove is right in your wheelhouse. The guitar sounds good. The mix sounds good. Well done! Tom

Sundance, thank you for stopping in for a listen : )

olemon, my dad's family is from Opelousas area so I'm familiar with swamp pop and had that sound in mind when I wrote the music for this one. When I play it live I arpeggiate the chords staccato a la "Unchained Melody". Quite a bit of Swamp pop has that same style. Good pick up.

Tom, thank you. I like this soulful genre and am happy when I'm inspired to write in this style.

Dani glad you liked this one!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
