Hi friends,

When I drag either the Master or individual instruments, the resulting aiff files contains that instrument mixed with another instrument (in this case, piano), instead of being a strictly solo track.

When I solo a track while playing back in BiaB (2014 mac) I don't hear the extra instrument. Is there any way to work around this?

Tried restarted the app, and muting all other tracks--that seemed to work, but after unmuting the stowaway piano track came back.

This is especially frustrating given that generating aiff files for the 6 tracks takes quite a while.

Will keep trying and post back if I find a workaround.

thanks,
-Tony

OK, so my workaround is as follows.

For each track:
- solo the track in the mixer
- hit Generate and Play (ensure the track works)
- now drag just that track to the drop area to generate aiff
- when done, drop into external program

It's quite possible this could be pilot error--this is only my 2nd day with the program. Although I have many years of experience with all manner of music software on both Mac and PC, and I'm a software engineer by trade.

Integration with external programs really elevates the usefulness of this tool, so I hope this is fixed soon.

Thanks,
-Tony

Dear Tony

Now I might be talking out of where the sun don't shine here - especially since I don't know the first thing about Macs/BIAB - but I had a similar experience with synths on a PC once. Second instrument being recorded.

OK. I was using Korg M1 Emulator. Turned out lots of their sounds are actually pairs of basic sounds being used together. And when you hit the MIDI Control part of the synth, the sounds themselves were split - one sound only came in at preset levels, either high or low. So you could make a composite sound from - say - choir and piano and have the choir only come in on the high notes (or low notes!)

Remembering I don't know (BEEP!) about BIAB, could it be something like that happening? One of the sounds you're using actually having a composite sound in with it that only kicks in at certain points?: If so, on the Korg there's a MUTE button and you can also just remove the sound from the pairing.

Just an idea, is all....

Yours respectfully

Welcome, Tony.

If this were a PC, I would ask if you had recorded an audio track of the piano that is playing along with the track you want. I'm not sure the Mac version has that, though. I suggest you post in the BIAB Product Forum for Mac.

I had a similar experience with my PC version. I loaded several Real Tracks of different instruments one after the other onto the Melody track including a piano and guitar. The guitar was the last audio (Real Track) loaded and the final several notes of audio were piano.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
