A bit strange but I hope you enjoy it. The song is really about cruising in my ferrocement yacht through the pacific (happy years) then returning home. But it could be about another kind of trip as well. Cheers.

Drift Away

We live on an is-land sur-rounded by trees we have a great grand plan
It's longer than midnight and covered in leaves we sing it be-cause we can

When I was a young man and worked on the rail trying so hard to con-form
The steam train was snorting de-vouring coal Inde-pendance was being born

Hey Hey Let's drift away Let us an-chor up-on a pale moon
We can sail through bright starlight and play games all night
When we've all had our say we might just drift away in a dream

We float on a footpath in forbidden waters flirting with snake and shark
In - dulging our senses with destiny's daughters tumbling in to the dark

Hey Hey Let's drift away Let us an-chor up-on a pale moon
We can sail through bright starlight and play games all night
When we've all had our say we might just drift away in a dream

To be moored in the mountains part of the land and to know that you've come home
It brings great satisfaction to play in lifes band and leave the deep waters a-lone

Hey Hey Let's drift away Let us an-chor up-on a pale moon
We can sail through bright starlight and play games all night
When we've all had our say we might just drift away in a dream

Good job on this one. Probably my favorite of your songs so far. Your productions are different but in a really good way and you have created a unique niche for yourself. You comment that the song is a bit strange but I'm not sure what you are alluding to. Not sure if what you are calling strange is what I'm calling unique. Whichever, it works.

It all came together well as written but if I may comment on the song structure, I noticed you chose to change the structure after the first verse and chorus, You start by using V,V,C then change to V,C,V,C and outro with instruments. It works but doesn't take advantage of the build up of your chorus. You have written a very good, rousing chorus and it seems you can take advantage of the strength of the chorus by combining verses 3 and 4 into the same structure of the first half of the song and then finish the song out with a long fade of repeating choruses.

Again, good job and I enjoyed listening.

Regards,

Charlie

Thanks for your thoughts Charlie. By strange I meant a bit more abstract than usual for me. More feelings than story. If it gets revisited anytime I will probably follow your excellent suggestions about the form. Felt the song was a bit short so stuck in verse 2 but like your idea of a long fade out on an extra chorus. Cheers.

Thanks Lawrence. Tried to make it a bit psychedelic. Cheers.

That's a creative and well done production. And, yep, the listener can insert their own memories readily on your lyric. That's a good thing that, IMO, creates broad appeal. This ole phart can get lost in this one!

Richard,

You just get funkier all the time. A very interesting production.

Your lyrics are so much fun to follow along with... interesting, evocative, emotional, descriptive, and (often) fun... slice of life...

I look forward to your songs - more all the time...

Thanks Floyd. I am truly delighted and flattered that you enjoy my songs. Am looking forward to getting finished with the ones from FAWM (one more to go) and writing some more. Cheers.

Hey Jim. I enjoy these things (they give me something to focus on) and if you do also that's a real bonus. Cheers.

Thank you Josie. Glad you enjoy that. Wish I could do something sweet but don't think I ever will! May try soon though. Cheers.

Hi Rich
I enjoyed the listen very very much. I must say that it is unusual, even for you. As Sundance said the funky arrangement is cool.
