Amongst other things frown I was a prescription medication addict and alcohol dependent a few years/ decades ago crazy and wrote this on my 12 string. It is a distant memory now so I was able at last to record it.
It is a bossa, Chacha tribute(?) to dependence.

ALCOHOL

I like drinking whisky
I also like drinking gin
Maybe that kinda explains a little bit
the trouble I’m in
But noone wants to
be to be unkind

Don’t give me lotsa money cos I wont have it long
The doctor took me of them little yellow pills I relied on to get by
I relied on to get by

My mind makes a killing
Everyday of the week
No time I just sink deep into misery no way out
No more little pills to rely on

It’s not much fun but I’m not the only one
the ones err were once prescribed
To change our minds
Little yellow pills to rely on to get by

My mind makes a killing
Everyday of the week
No time I just sink deep into misery no way out
No more little pills to rely on

No more little pills
aah just one in a million
but i err rely on
gotta get by

This is a weighty subject and your lyrics seem almost a matter of prayer. Your vocals are a good fit for this song and the subject.

Hi Alyn. I love the drama, the phrasing and the shock of the chorus. The voice and the backing really work for me. Nice one. Cheers.

Alyn!!!!!

THIS IS PHENOMENAL!!!!!!

Excellent in every way. Terrific production. Perfect vocals.

A great big WOW at ya, man!!!

This would fit nicely into one of my all-time favorite albums - that few people seem to know about - BREEZY STORIES by Danny O'Keefe - you should try to find a copy - I think you might like it...

Awesome piece of work, Alyn. I applaud you...

Nicely done - the vocals are an excellent match to the music.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Alyn,

The transition from narrative to that chorus vocal is GREAT! Really like way you put this arrangement together musically too. BTW, I'm not usually a fan of narrative in songs but you sure sold me on this one.

floyd,

I am humbled by your comments. Thank you. A little tear crept into the corner of my eye reading your post.
this is one of the vignettes of my life.

I have heard of Danny O'Keefe, in the recesses of my memory, but will search for him and listen to his works later today.

thank you so much floyd

Guenter,

The brassy solo took time to get right, but to me the combo of a chacha and waltz set the solo in place.

Thank you

Josie,

I am so glad you liked it, your songs are so beautiful.
The demons can't sing eek it was "me" in the chorus!!

I write a lot of poems and have put a few to music so I will warn you when I post the next one!!! I call this style of mine Old Man Rap without a silent C.

very unique, love the style here for such a deep and difficult subject. you have a Tom Waits vibe going on to me, and a vocal performance that accentuates and complements the lyric quite effectively!

well done much enjoyed!

Alyn, What a great song. An important subject that comes across as a personal journey. The chorus is striking. My favorite of yours so far. Great Job!! Tom

Hey Alyn.

That is not a comfortable listen - not something you'd put on late at night to relax to after a hard day. It has the same effect on me as does the piano solo in Bowie's Aladin Sane.

Having said that, it's still brilliant in it's conception and execution. The music, the lyrics and the vocals have so many contrasts and contradictions and yet the whole thing comes together with such a powerful effect. How do you DO that?

Just when I start to think I know what you're up to, you surprise me yet again.

Whatever next? I can't wait to see.

ROG.

Mercifully I've never been there...but I have family
and friends who have. Some came out on the
good side and some didn't. I'm happy you landed
in a good place. And, wow, what a way to express
yourself! They've all already said it and I feel the
same way but couldn't begin to be as eloquent as
floyd -- he really nailed it. This is one that will
be on our play list and one that we will share.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
