A asked Richard, an old friend of mine, to try his hand at lyric writing, which he'd never done before and was very wary of doing so in case the results were not up to the mark. A few weeks later he astounded me by bringing around three lots of song lyrics in various styles which were absolutely superb! I added music to the first one and here's the result:

Interesting lyrics written by your friend and a good transitioning getting the feel of the lyrics with the music. I also enjoyed the video and looking forward to the next two songs. Good effort.

Very cool tune!! Top notch production!! Sounds great. I love the vocals. The whole thing is beautifully done! What is the phasing effect on the vocal at times? I am looking for that effect for one of my tunes. Great work! Take care. Greg

John this is top shelf all the way. Excellent lyrics, superb vocals, great backing tracks, outstanding guitar lead all in one very polished professional sounding mix. You should be very proud of this one.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Hi John,

Mario said it: "Excellent lyrics, superb vocals, great backing tracks, outstanding guitar lead all in one very polished professional sounding mix."

I'd like to know what's BiaB and what's you.
And where did you get the footage for that nice video?

Many thanks Charlie, Greg, Mario, Guenter.

Greg, the phasing effects were courtesy of a new plugin by Waves, 'Abbey Road Reel ADT'. It's excellent for ADT, flanging and phasing, and not too expensive.

Mario, no backing tracks on this one. I did all the bass, organ and brass with MIDI on my Roland synth. Rhythm and lead guitar parts were done using Guitar Rig 5, and I programmed the drums using XLN Addictive Drums.

Guenter, I made the video using various downloadable videos on the web. (Two ads by Perrier came in very handy!)

John

THanks for the info John. It's a great track!! Well, I guess that's another Waves plugin I need. I love their stuff, but I'm thinking of adding to Waves with the UAD Apollo twin. Heard anything about that from anyone you know personally? Take care. Greg

John,

Beautifully done. Interesting instrumentation throughout. The horns are tasty. Love your guitar. You had to have spent a lot of time of the drums track - nicely done. Terrific vocal - love the effects on it.

Cool lyric! Many different depths to it. Kudos to you both.

Stellar mix.

Pro all the way - as your stuff always is... top=notch.

John,

Great editing on the video - I felt like I was watching a movie with the soundtrack playing. Great sound and I especially liked that line about the fabric and the threads.

PLUS 1

And let me add the video to that superlative list. Wow! Oh and the dynamics and the rhythmic changes - super. You are going way, way deeper into BIAB capabilities than I will ever tap. BRAVO!

Hi Jon,

Wow, Richard wrote as gem of a lyric. And your musical production was nothing short of fabulous! And what a great video! It has that distinctive sound of Brit Pop-Rock ... we love it!

That was more fun than a song ought to be. Super in ever possible way! And what a great ending! Best to you and congrats to you sand Richard for a job very well-done!

Hello John,

Very professional song and video! Very good vocals and phasing on them. They kind of make me think of Sebastian by Steve Harley, especially in the bridge.
All instruments also sound very clear and professional. This is a top-notch production.

Regards,
Rob

Many thanks for all your kind comments, I really appreciate it.

I meant to re-post this one because a couple of weeks ago I completely re-recorded it!
I don't usually re-work songs, but replaying it to someone in my studio I suddenly noticed it was too slow. So I increased the tempo, took the key down a tone and re-did all the tracks and then the video! I'm much more pleased with it now.

All those who took a listen before 9th July or thereabouts will notice the improvement!

John
