An instrumental inspired by a river near my home. Kish Bass RT 366 Country Bass Drums Nashville even 16 All other instrumentation was played by me. Even though "country" RTs were used, this is not a "country" tune. I'm not sure what genre it belongs to... just came out the way it came out. Any/all comments/suggestions welcome.

Nice tune Rob. Maybe "easy listening" or "chill-out music'? In any case it sound good and relaxing.

Nicely realised Rob. I can see a lazy river in my mind listening to that. Very atmospheric.

It reminds me of Pink Floyd. Very nice. I like all the tasteful use of the effects, I've just starting investigating some VSTplugins that I have, so that caught my attention.

Very nice, Rob. The acoustic is very well recorded. And the little touches of piano are tasteful - what is the piano?
Good mix.

Very nice, the acoustic guitar is very well recorded. What microphone did you use? This is something that would fit well in a movie or documentary.
Keep up the good work, regards R & AM

Nice job on the live recordings.
Yeah just because it's country or rock tracks doesn't mean a thing. I use "cross genre" stuff all the time and it adds a different feel to the music.
IMHO, the drums...especially the snare is just a tad too hot and sticks up and out of the mix.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Rob, I really like the chords on the acoustic. Great job recording that. As John said, very atmospheric. I liked it a lot. Tom

@Bob: Thanks for the compliment on the guitar work! @Mike: Thanks for the suggestions about genre. ...I can see a lazy river in my mind listening to that. Very atmospheric. @John: The Kish is a "lazy" river. I'm glad the tune brought this to mind. I was picturing the river at sunrise / sunset while composing. It reminds me of Pink Floyd. Very nice. I like all the tasteful use of the effects, I've just starting investigating some VSTplugins that I have, so that caught my attention. @Patrick: My wife also said it sounded like Pink Floyd. I did use Dimension Pro for the piano. Otherwise all the effects used were stock Sonar effects. Reverb, eq, and compression. There was also delay on the piano. The eq was used mostly to roll of the bass frequencies of the synth and guitars (high pass). Most of the "effects" you are hearing came from my Alesis 6.1. I have had the same board since 1998. Very nice, Rob. The acoustic is very well recorded. And the little touches of piano are tasteful - what is the piano? @ Floyd: The piano is the only soft-synth in the mix. It is a Dimension-Pro preset. I played it using my Alesis a controller. @Charlie: Thanks for the listen! Very nice, the acoustic guitar is very well recorded. What microphone did you use? This is something that would fit well in a movie or documentary. @R&AM: Thank you. The guitar was recorded using a pencil condenser (MXL 603s). I'm always impressed by its sound as it came free with the purchase of a entry-level large diaphragm condenser (MXL 2001). Funny you should mention the "movie" as I am currently putting together a video of the river using this as the sound-bed. IMHO, the drums...especially the snare is just a tad too hot and sticks up and out of the mix. @Guitarhacker: You know, on one of the speaker systems I listened to it on (my car), I was thinking the same thing. I'll have to go back and revisit the mix. I'll update the post when I do. @Tom: Thanks for the listen and the kudos!

Hi Rob,
I found this a very pleasant and relaxing listening. "Soothing" was a word that regularly floated around inside my mind.
I enjoyed it.
All the best, Noel

Atmospheric is indeed the key word here....so easy to see the river. Well, maybe I'm set up for it because we paddled today.
Nice production with fine playing. Kudos.

Nobilis beat me to the punch. I hear Pink Floyd all over the place-not any song but the vibe!! Beautifully done! I kept expecting David Gilmore's transcendental voice to poor in with some trippy lyrics. Top notch work!! Take care. Greg

I agree with all the posters this is a wonderfully atmospheric piece of music. However I imagined myself floating in space rather than by a river, sorry !! Still excellent tho'
Totally agree with the Pink Floyd vibe.

Love it! Love the bass! Also hear a bit of an early pink floyd vibe. Floating. Cheers.

Hi Robb...
We loved it from the opening (cool!) to the very last note. As so many have said, "atmospheric" at its best.
It reminded Di and me of a still bayou late at night. There was the feel of apprehension as well as the comfort of beauty. Great cut !!!!!! Best to ya,
Alan & Di

Really nice Floyd-esque work!! I could imagine more strings fattening it up along with David Gilmore vocals The sounds of an actual river with paddling perhaps? But, then again, it's not about going for Floyd- it's about going for YOU! Well done!!!! peace~
