Hello everyone, This is our new song: Through the years youtube video Rob: the song is about a relationship I was once in (yes I know ). Anne-Marie: mmmh..your favorite source of inspiration? Rob: The most poetic lyrics I have written so far, I think . They are however more cynical than you would think. Anne-Marie: is that so..... Rob: I've recorded this song before. In that version I played the piano myself. The so-called "beginners piano". It took me about 30 overdubs to get it right (I'm not much of a piano player). Anne-Marie: it's a good thing then that in this version we used the DXI-Forte (midi) piano which sounds surprisingly good for midi. And what about my backing vocals? Rob: they sure add a new dimension to this song. We hope you like it. As always, comments are welcome. regards, R & AM Style: alberti.sty alberti classical piano Used real tracks: 2337 violin background pop high ev 085 2338 violin background pop low ev 085 piano: acoustic piano (dxi forte) Lyrics: Through the years I wonder if you're longing dear when through the years I held you near you might even want to take the fall with little risk and know it all always take your side I can't just always hurt you I can't just always hurt you I watched the rain run through your hair and lost my way just standing there and when my day turns into night with a promising and precious fight always take your side I can't just always hurt you I can't just always hurt you

Oh my gosh, guys! This is simply gorgeous!
The video is fabulous, the way you scrolled the lyric and the candles going in and out. We're stunned by the beauty of this song. The chord arrangement blew us away! And your voice shines like a beacon on a dark night.
That was fabulous. We don't know what else to say. This is one of the very prettiest songs we've heard on the forum in our relatively short time here. Standing ovation from both of us!!!!!!!!

Thanks Al and Di,
The video was created by Anne-Marie. She's getting quite good with this video thing. She uses Power Director for video editing. We only use footage that is completely royalty-free. This candlelight video suited the song quite well. It wasn't easy to get the 'blowing out of the candles' exactly in sync with the ending of the song. As for your response to my comments on Another Day: thank you for taking the trouble to look up RSI problems. Similar to your inability to play very fast riffs due to your condition, I will also have to limit my guitar playing to very basic stuff. But then again, speed is not always 'it'. This reminds me of an interview with Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd I once watched. The interviewer asked : "how come that in every guitar solo you play, the individual notes are still very audible?" David Gilmour replied: "that's because I can't play any faster"
Regards, Rob

I love your choice of instrumentation. And your chord progression keeps the song interesting.
My favorite line is:
"I watched the rain run through your hair and lost my way just standing there"
Once again the vocals and harmonies are a treat!
much enjoyed!

Two minutes seemed a little short but leaving me wanting more is better than the alternative. <grin> I always enjoy your songs and those wonderful voices. Loved the rain line.
Cool video too.

Rob ,
I have done a song using the same style. Then I heard yours and now my song doesn't sound so good LOL!! Beautiful vocals. Beautiful chord sequence Beautiful.
You said all there is to say in 2 minutes. And as Josie said you left me wanting more.
Wonderful
Alyn

Hi Lawrence, Thank you! Yes, probably my best 2 lines so far. I had some inspiration at the time, usually I'm having a hard time writing lyrics. But when I listen to your 'Seventh Skin' where virtually every line is poetic I can always do better Sentences like: 'I'm older than the trees', 'I no longer have a name' etc are great. Question, since the lyrics aren't written in that post, are you singing: "and my daughters everyone " or "and my daughter's everyone" A crucial difference...... Regards, Rob

I like this.
I always enjoy hearing lyrics that create a great visual. I didn't watch the video...choosing simply to listen and go with that.
Yeah... the rain in the hair line is what great songs are made from.
Nice

Great idea to have a simple musical bed to allow poignant lyrics room to breath. Simplicity and silence are two of the least used tools from the musical toolbox and are usually pulled out by the true craftsman, as is the case here with your song.
Pure craftsmanship by two true craftsmen.

Hi Josie, thank you! Well these relative short lyrics weren't exactly a conscious choice. It's more that I couldn't think of much else that would be functional in this song but yes you're right, it's better to have a short song that stays interesting, then making it 'artificially' longer. Anne-Marie doesn't mind, because this also means a shorter video Regards, Rob

Rob, the line from "Seventh Skin" is: "I've outlived all my sons, and my daughters everyone"
I guess there could be a dash or comma "...and my daughters - everyone"
By the way David Gilmour has always been on of my favorite guitarists so I just love that quote. And I find his sentiment to be so true. I like to think of my limitations as a songwriter, musician, and vocalist as "my color palette". And it's my duty to work within my limitations, to make the most of the colors I possess (as opposed to fretting about what I can't do).

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie. Really enjoyed your song and the delightful video. Felt the tension throughout the song which really held my attention. Cheers.

I also think this is your best song to date!
I really liked the video, great job on that Anne-Marie.
The vocals, harmonies, chord progression, and mix are fantastic. I also loved that " I watched the rain......... lines very much. That is one great piece of writing!
