A week ago I saw a DVD (2010 with Helen Mirren, Tom Conti, Russell Brand and Jude Akuwudike as the boatswain) of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, brilliant.
This somehow reminded me of my seeing Rudolf Nureyev doing Swan Lake live in Drury Lane, London 30/40 years ago *ding -an idea for a song*. That was an experience to see a master at work even tho' I was up in the gods and Rudolf was less than 6 inches high!!
This is one of the quickest songs I have ever done.
I had a 4/4 rock song in BIAB, slowed it down and input _POPWLZ1.STY and 3 hours later it was finished, vocals and all. I wrote the lyrics from the male lead's point of view.

I imagine this is a snippet of a scene in a modern ballet where male and female leads duet, alone, no other dancers.

It was fun
alone with the thoughts in the sky
together we tried and we tired
we held each other tight
like doves in mid flight
round and then pirouette again

it was fun
you can't deny
it was fun
just you and I

suddenly we were dancing
suddenly by chance we could fly
we ran away slow
made such a show that the doves are in mid flight again

it was fun
you can't deny
it was fun
just you and I

SOLO

it was fun
you can't deny
it was fun
just you and I
it was fun
alone with the thoughts in the sky

Alyn,

Can't deny... it WAS fun! smile

Your songs/productions are so imaginative! A joy to listen to.
Great mix on this. Another nice bass track! Was wishing the organ was up a little more.

What a catchy chorus. That's gonna be in my head the rest of the day..

You are an original. We are lucky to have you with us!

Can't help thinking Lennon when I hear your vocal, and I'm a huge Lennon fan! This is a very cool and creative tune. I don't know how you made a jazz sax fit so perfectly into a song that isn't jazz. You have a gift for pulling in real tracks which most would never guess could work, and making magic. Another fine effort!! Take care. Greg

Alyn, a very original song, short and sweet. Quirky in the extreme and I love quirky. That chorus is a bona fide earworm!

Hi Alyn. I really enjoy your tunes. You are imaginative and as others have noted, your songs always come together quite well.

I was thinking Rod Stewart maybe. I can picture Lennon now that you mention it. But Alyn will do just as well!

floyd,

Thanks for the kind comments.
I too wondered about the level of organ and decided to have it almost subliminal, ie just heard. I will re-evaluate laugh later today!

Always good to hear from you
take care

What you hear is the first take as I was looking for a solo and the waltz ones didn't hit the spot but that did. It was almost as if the player was in the room, getting the feel spot on. I LOVE BIAB for moments like that!!!

Thanks for the Lennon comparison and for listening!!

All the best,

Alyn

Thanks John,
The chorus was the "inspiration" to continue the song as it was the hook that instantly caught me.

Yup quirky, weird that's me!!

hi alyn!

loved it, a great idea became a great song – IT WAS FUN!

great sax and real tracks, but it's your voice that make the soul of this song
i was back in '71 – the best songwriter year ever ;-)

…and i agree; more organ on the solo, please

…and the ballet scene is still "dancing in my mind"

I love those lines Alyn. This is a cool pop song. I like everything about it - vocals, arrangement. The way the chord progression moves through the song is really nice too.

Hi Alyn,

Again that Lennon sound, very cool!
We also very much like the arrangement on this.
Altogether this is almost The Beatles 2014.
Keep them coming!

I agree 100%. I also agree with the Lennon remarks.

Super job on this one Alyn!
