I made some rather harsh comments the other day about a Rob and Anne-Marie's song Come out and See. Floyd commented This one really sticks in your head... I can still hear it going "ooh, baby.." - always something special when you can do that...That got me thinking, and I hope this song serves an apology! The vocal was written to be sung with a British accent, but I couldn't really pull it off: Baby I Love YouI was motoring down the road When some lady caught my eye And I found my legs becoming oh, so weak
So I pulled my Bentley over And I stepped out by her side But I struggled to find the right words I should speak
Now, saying "Baby, I love you" Might be what the ladies want to hear But it's vulgar, trite and lazy And feels completely insincere
And yet... While I strove to be refined And avoid those tired cliches Some other chap stepped in front of me And cut right to the chase
Of course, he said "Ooh, baby I love you" "Oooh, baby, let's run away" She didn't give me a second glance As the two went on their way
(Broke my heart, it did)
They say it takes a big man To admit that he is wrong Well, it's a big, big man Who is singing you this song
Not every chap is Shakespeare Modern gals don't call for Keats The language of love is music (play on!) Auto-tuned with heavy beats
Now I say: "Baby I love you" "Oooh, baby, let's run away" "Oooh, baby, honey baby" "Baby, baby, babe"Sorry, no BIAB instruments on this! Apologies to Johnny Cash, for obvious reasons. Yes, it's got piano pedal squeaks, and lots of other defects. I used a single microphone in the middle of the living room, with kids wandering around and plenty of interruptions. It was an interesting challenge building a usable song out of that! As always, comments are welcome!

Extraordinarily jolly old boy! Well done on a catchy little ditty, I enjoyed that. Ok, a couple of tips for the accent: - 'Caught my eye', try 'Cawt' not 'cot'. - 'Gals', try 'gels'. - 'Chance', try 'Chahnce'. S'easy! John

I laughed all the way through this. Several plays (after a few, SC hung up on me, though). A funny write - and gets funnier as it goes..
A touch of Tom Lerher (mixed with a little Alyn, it seems).
Clever. Well played.
(...still laughing...)

David,
I say what a spiffing track, like what I heard when at my private boarding school, years back. One could say what fun.
Good to hear the liveness of the song and your voice sounded strange cos I imagined it to be synthetic and computer generated... Sorry lol. Yeah tom lehrer, I can see/hear that too.... Thanks for the mention Floyd!!
That song was great, glad I stopped by!!
More please
Alyn

For some reason, all my accents tend to degenerate into Count Dracula. Hilarious, but for the all the wrong reasons. Thanks!

I laughed all the way through this. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I sort of envisioned Hugh Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster singing the part, but had to settle for me doing a poor man's version of Mark Russell.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I sound like - one of the few tracks you can catch me on that's not auto-tuned, too! I ran the de-esser, but that didn't even even make a dent!

Really enjoyed this and pretty nice recording and sharper than I anticipated after reading your set up for the recording. Good job.

No BIAB !!!!??? Gasp! Well, more power to ya from someone who uses mostly RealDrums as my excuse to be in this Forum.
Cool and funny tune, and I especially liked John's tips on improving our English accents.
The best tutorial I know of is the BBC cop show Luther starring Idris Elba.

Hi David,
very funny and enjoyable. You say you ran the de-esser. Maybe a little too much because in places it sounds as if you have a speech defect. Enjoyed listening though.

Unfortunately, it's based around a physical condition that no one who knows me is likely to believe: my mouth is too small. Well, for my tongue to properly form an "s", anyway. If the vocal were multi-tracked, I'd have been able to correct the "s" with volume envelopes. That obviously wouldn't work here, but you've got me wondering if an EQ notch filter would have any effect. That's basically what a de-esser is anyway - I was just in a hurry and after twiddling the knobs simply gave up. Thanks for your attention to detail!

David, We need to hear more of your real voice! Thanks, Tom. Glad you liked it! My real problem is laziness... I'll spend hours tweaking a mix, but the idea of re-recording vocals... The horror!

Hi David,
Lots of fun here! And like other folks, enjoyed hearing your human voice. You nicely captured the dry wit of the British humor. Nicely done!
And since it's what you call an apology song (I'm familiar with the issue), we think most will excuse posting with no BIAB tracks. We have quite a few songs originally done on another music creation software. We just add strings or a pad so we can post them here in good faith. But, as we said, with a good reason it's easy to make an occasional exception.
Again, nicely done. Best to ya!

But there's no need for anyone to excuse the lack of BiaB tracks in the post. While this forum is for "users" of BiaB, but doesn't require their use in posted songs. Rather, it says (emphasis added): If Band-in-a-Box or RealBand have been used, please provide information as to which styles or RealTracks were used. That having been said, there's rarely a reason I wouldn't be using BiaB. Thanks again!

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
