Here's Di singing for the first time since her minor stroke last month. Believe it or not, she did this on one take. It took all her energy, but she got it done! It's a Pop Rock tune from the era of the late 90's. It's a little loud ... I need to cut the master volume on it next time I play around with it.

We wrote the lyric, the music and recording it in about 6 hours earlier this afternoon. It's more in the demo stage and we're open to any and all suggestions. Di said to tell everyone how much she appreciates the well-wishes and kind thoughts of the people here on the forum. Same goes for me.

And that's me, Alan, doing the harmony in falsetto ... I'll never be the same!

Mystery Man
(c) 2014 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Randall, BMI

(v1)
Dark eyes with a hypnotic glow
Erotic smile that brings me alive
Shows up at the club each night
Stays above all the talk and jive
Soft spoken, never says too much
Gentle strength in Armani threads
He walks my way passing by the rest
The other girls all turn their heads

CHORUS
A mystery man coming into my space
Got no past that no one can trace
Takes my breath when he takes my hand
I'm captivated by a mystery man
A mystery man

(v2)
Magic feet on the hardwood floor
Body swaying to the melody
The ladies hoping for that special dance
He just smiles says it's saved for me
I feel his breath as it warms my cheek
Holds me close setting off alarms
I'm wishing that the song won't end
It's like magic when I'm in his arms

REPEAT CHORUS

Instrumental Verse

(v3)
A fantasy from a midnight dream
Everything that a man should be
But he's elusive like a butterfly
I'll never have him cuz he's got to be free
Like a whisper in a summer breeze
He disappears right before my eyes
But he'll be back on another night
And once again I'll be hypnotized

REPEAT CHORUS

Great tune. Nice to have Di back singing. What a talent she is. Good job on the falsetto BGV's to Al.

Hi Josie!

Alan here. Thank you so much. Di's sleeping, trying to get some of her strength back. We sure do appreciate your kind words. And yeah, that Sade sound is right up her alley. There is much she can't sing, and sing, good, outside of Rap, Heavy Metal & Hard Rock. I wish I could sing even half that good!

Thanks again! Best to ya ...

Alan & Di

HI Charlie ...

Alan here. Di's sleeping, trying to get some rest. Thank you so much for the very nice comments. We truly appreciate the listen and the kind words.

I'm not so sure how good that falsetto is, but my body will never forgive me!

Best to ya ...

Alan & Di

Hello Alan and Di,

It's so good to hear Di singing again!
I am very glad she's doing better.
Creating all of this, music, lyrics, vocals etc. in about six hours is quite an achievement!
I really like this song. Di's got just the voice for this. Lots of respect that she managed to get this right after a period of not being able to sing at all.
Alan, in our opinion the backing vocals could be changed a little in order to work better in the song.
I'm thinking different notes, higher or lower pitch maybe. Possibly two or more voices. If you like you could send us a version without the backing vocals. I'm pretty sure Anne-Marie can come up with some very nice harmonies here for you to sing. Should some of them be too high, I'm pretty sure she'd like to sing those higher parts for you.

The overall production sounds crispy and clear through my speakers.
The sax soloist really rocks!!

Very well done,
Rob

Alan and Di, The sax fits like a hand in a glove. Di, terrific vocal. Right in your wheelhouse. Great mix - sounds clean and clear. You both have a firm grip on this style. Good job! Tom

Di - Welcome Back! Great to hear you singing! You sound terrific...

Nice write, guys. One of your best. Y'all do this style well...

The production and mix are really good. The only thing that I would change are the opening notes of the sax. They are a bit abrupt, rapid fire - right there at the start. I heard passages in the lead that were a little more drawn out (notes) that would make the opening smoother (and more inviting, seductive, to match Di's vocal..)

I agree with Guenter - definitely take Anne-Marie's offer (or Rob's, actually) for additional BGVs. Alan - nothing against your girly voice smile - but I think you would be better off doing a low harmony (Alan as Barry White).

I like it!

Good to see you "back in the saddle"...

Cool song!! Great pop feel, and the lyrics are engaging and fit the musical vibe perfectly. It's good to see that Di has made such a quick recovery-she sounds great! This would have been a cool song for Sade. Really nice job all the way around!! Take care. Greg

We're listening w/o the perspective of
having listened to Sade -- never have.

So to me this is just a really fine Al & Di
song and that's plenty good enough
for us.

Di sounds great -- even without knowing
what she's been through...she sounds great.

And, the supporting arrangement is
absolutely tailor made for her vocal.

Great job guys and what a fine
re-entry!

Hi, Al & Di !:))

I am sorry for Di´s ordeal
and really hope that she´s
made a full recovery, I´ve
also had a cerebral haemorrhage
luckily quite an easy one but
nevertheless...... This song
is your best both as a composition
and performed !! Absolutely
wonderfull (and I love those
chords too) !!!

Cheers
Dani

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
