This is the 1st of 2 songs I wrote one weekend in 1975. I was at St Pancras Station London one Friday afternoon saying goodbye to the latest love of my life who was going away for the weekend and this is the one she liked the most.
Both songs emerged over the next few weeks. This was written on that piano in that room in "A Place that I go to".

I heard the 1st 2 lines said by a disgruntled passerby as I sprinted to the bar once the train had gone, except a different expletive I believe!! It was hammering down.

DAMN ME

Damn me It looked like rain
Oh those storm clouds crowding the skies over me again
I remember what you said as the train pulled out on time

Why Now do they have to run on time
When I only have these moments left with you going out of my mind

It always bin the same
I paint a picture with words in my mind again
As the sun always shines on the canvas that’s my mind

Why Now do they have to run on time
When I only have these moments left with you going out of my mind

Its OK you can tell your friends
You can write a book about it if you want to
You even could pretend that you're not there
But somewhere in your mind etched for the rest of time
Is that space for those thoughts of me and you

No wonder some one cries
No wonder they all tell lies
If this is what they go through
Just like me and you
Saying hullo is the easy part
Saying good bye oh no

Damn me if you didn’t smile
And that somehow now makes this all worthwhile

Great feel on this one Alyn, as usual!! The chord changes are really unusual but beautifully musical. I love the bass string on the guitar doing that walk up (I'm guessing that's you on the 12 string). Another very creative, unique and wonderfully pleasant tune! Take care. Greg

Alyn, The twelver sounds great. There are some unusual chord changes in this one but you always pull it back in and pull it off. I think it's great that you overheard someone say a line and built a song around it. A very enjoyable listen . Tom

Hi Alyn.

Yes, I'm another one who liked the chords and the ascending run.

But then, I liked everything about this track.

It's another song with "Alyn" stamped all over it. Always good, always original.

It's rare for me to like everything that one person does, but I'm still waiting for a track from you which I don't like.

ROG.

Alyn,

"But somewhere in your mind etched for the rest of time
Is that space for those thoughts of me and you"

Nice!

Really like the slight echo on the vocal... The 12 sounds great.

Nice melody, too.. Excellent listen!

Floyd beat me to the punch on mentioning that line.
EXCELLENT!

A neat inspiration and a cool write to follow it
up with. Great arrangement. Don't hear many
12 string guitars now days.

We enjoyed everything about it!

Hi Alyn,

This song reminds us of some early Bowie songs.
Nice music and melody. We also love the 12-string.

Greg,

Thank you for those nice comments, yes it was me on my 12, actually 11 string as one of my top E's went *POP* and I didn't, strangely, have a spare E!!

Glad you enjoyed,

Dani,
Thanks dear friend, that was my idea of a love song.

I re-met the young lady a few years ago and we Skype now, she still looks the same, if you squint a bit, LOL.

Thanks for commenting

floyd,

That line appeared because at the time I was revising for my Dental finals and we were in the middle of neurology revision lectures and all I can remember now is the brain storing everything we do, to be recalled when there is a trigger point.

and it fitted perfectly.

I love my 12 string, known as birdie cos it was a gibson hummingbird copy. Well behaved as it is always in tune! Altho' it was actually an 11 string at the time as I said in my reply to Greg!

Thanks for listening

Janice and Bud,

As I mentioned to floyd that line appeared because of the other part of my life then, revising for finals mad

I got soaked on the way to the bar and the 1st words were that phrase verbatim, but of course I had to change the expletive and its adjective variation.

I only play that 12 string when I am acoustic, don't like the sound of a 6 string, also a 12 covers a lot of mistakes!

take care, both

Alyn

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
