Is there any way to add documentation to a new / modified style?

I can see how to get information into the small "memo" box on the right hand side, and also into the lower boxes, but the large "memo" box seems to be inaccessible.
PGMusic uses it to document instruments and such, and I would like to do the same.

I checked BBW.LST and the instrument information is not included, even for styles that have the information.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure what you mean by the 'small' and 'large' memo windows. BIAB does have a separate memo function though. It's accessed by clicking on the 'Memo' button I've highlighted below.

Once the memo window is open, it's possible to position the mouse on any corner, press and hold the left mouse button and then drag the window to any size. (I've placed the mouse over the bottom right corner (in the image above) to obtain the resizing arrow.)

I find that the above "Memo" document is a great place to record information.

In addition, under the "Lyrics" menu, clicking on "Lyrics Document Window" will open a notepad that can also be used to record information.

Hope these help,
Noel

The memo windows are in the style picker on the right hand side.

Dave,
I think you need to do it using LS3 files. If you search Help for "LS3" you will find an explanation. Good luck following it. It is also covered briefly here: http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_styledata.htm

Thanks -I'll give it a try.
I knew not to change BBW.LST and the equivalent user file. This seems to have the secret fields.

As long as the user style is in the main BB folder, or the BB\Styles folder, it should be picked up in the Other Styles category and you can edit the information there without having to worry about LS3 files. You do have to rebuild the style list to see it appear.

John,
I have used the edit function in the picker window, and rebuilt the style list. Everything works as expected, except that any memo text created goes into the upper memo window of the style. I cant get anything into the larger box

I even looked at the BBW.LST for a BBW style with text in the box, but it is not there. There must be something else that needs to be updated. I just can't see what

In the webpage referenced above it shows a sample of the LS3 file but the style picker has more data

LS3 File.
@DOVES.STY\Doves - St8 Arps Southern Gospel^Arpeggiated st8 SoGospel-Ctry ballad style. 5 insts: At 'a', ac. g (arps),nylon g, ac. b & cello. At 'b'add light drums & smooth string pad. T=85*How Great Thou Art, What a Friend

From Style Picker

Where is this additional information stored- and how can I create it for a new style

I'm not at my machine, so I would have to take a look at it when I get home later this evening. I'll let you know what I find out.

I do know, however, that for PGMusic provide styles there is a lot of style information information presented in StylePicker that is not found in the LST file, but is hard coded somewhere in the program, so what is displayed is a combination of that information and the LST information.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
