Now it's time to reveal some secrets about this Kollaboration. Yes, that's with a K, as in Keystone Kops Kollaboration.

The start: Dani proposes this great tune but I hate the BIAB accompaniment so much that I offer to completely reconstruct the accompaniment, which I do.

The middle: I go completely berserk and create an entirely new tune. Dani doesn't like it, which is entirely reasonable. It isn't his tune anymore. I give Dani all the tracks and we both walk away from it. Sometimes collaborations don't pan out. No big deal.

The Keystone Kops: During all this time, I think that it's water under the bridge. I am unaware that Pat Marr is collaborating with Dani on the very same tune, which is still quite alive! Dani sends an email asking if he can still use the guitar solo and I say, Sure!

The impossible: So I'm thinking, Dani has this BIAB accompaniment and my solo in 5/4. Like any jazz soloist, I'm always way ahead of, or way behind the beat. Listening to that solo alone, you could never tell if it was in 3/4, 5/4 or pi/4. I don't know how he did it, but Dani managed to align that solo right on the money.

And this last feat is what I want to compliment Dani on. And, to top it off, the tune becomes a big Forum hit! I want to thank Pat and Dani for not giving up.

And of course, under the circumstances, mixing, mastering and production issues had to go by the wayside. Think "The Keystone Kops Visit the Recording Studio" ... could be a pretty scary movie.

Dani, The odd meter works really well. Being a 4/4 guy it is an interesting listen for me. Great harmonies! Another lesson in jazz guitar from Dean. A very nice chord progression. Tom

Hi, Dean, good ol´partner !!!:))

You are gracious not to say that
I did not hate your version but
just could not get the singing
right upon it ! In fact your version
was much more than the BIAB version
and I felt sad lacking the ability
required !

About your solo, I chopped it up
into bits (as you know it is not so
difficult to do with mixcraft) and
put it back again I am sorry to say not
exactly as you had played it, forgive me
for that !:))

Thank you Dean for lifting the tune up
with that unearthly solo I managed almost
to destroy !!!!

Cheers
Dani

Hi, Tom !:))

We do appreciate your
most kind words very much !
There is always something magic
about 5/4 (and beside that
in fact in odd meters in general)
Dean is truly a master of playing
melodies by playing chords !
I think he is the best I´ve ever
heard doing that !!!

Cheers
Dani

Man, that wasn't an easy song! You don't ever take the low hanging fruit, do you Dani? Reminded me of the Association or Brooklyn Bridge! Please tell us a little bit about how you did the harmonies.. is that all you? Or did you use a harmonizer?

This is a real departure from anything your ever presented here before! Not just from the standpoint of an odd time signature, but also the construction of the harmonies and the ability to sing what you've created! All I can say is that this is the work of a confident man... and I guess to some extent we should thank Li for that! wink

And of course Deans jazz guitar is legendary by now... the smooth chordal melody takes any song environment and elevates it to a new level of sophistication.

Between the two of you doing what you do best, that was a very enjoyable tune in every way!

Hi, Pat !:))

You know you are more
than nice with us and
we do feel most honored
by your kind words !

About the vocals: I do sing
them all just improvising
4 to 5 voices one upon the other !
I never use harmonizers, I do not
even know what they are or how to use
them ! But Pat, these vocals were not
easy to sing and I soon realized I
would not be able to reproduce them
many times so I had to stick to the
first take (the one with the clinking
piano that did not amuse Dean so he did
a completely new backing that I on my
part was not able to sing good enough upon)!
That was why I stole his solo and put it
on the first take instead !

.......Pat, yes I am pretty confident now
and......I do thank Li for that also (chuckle) !!!

Cheers
Dani

Hi Dani,

I've just had the time of my life listening to this composition. It's just great. As others have noted the harmonies are very much in the style of Fifth Dimension. It sounded like you had a great deal of fun singing with yourself. I'm incredibly impressed that you can harmonise so effortlessly!

As always, Dean's jazz guitar work sings. There is real beauty in such lyrical improvisation.

All up ... Just wow!

All the best,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
