Nice write with all the imagery for a good rockin' Texas Blues. Like Gruve said Tom's vocal and instruments bring the right character to this style.
Simply a fine well produced and mixed tune in a genre that we love.
Nice collab you two!
J&B Thanks guys we appreciate it. Tom Tom/Josie, Great opening. Clever title. A good write. (the "red suitcase" is a nice touch) Excellent mix. The walkup in the chorus is particularly nice. Nice steel work (it is just too cool that you can do that!) Fun. (must be "fun country" week ) Enjoyed, indeed... floyd Thanks floyd. The red suitcase is all Josie. She really tied some lines together nicely in this one. The walk up is the guitar and steel doubling the bass line. Tom

Hi Josie and Tom,
good old rocking blues! Great vocals and background vocals. Guitar and steel are the icing. The second fun toe tapper this week. Thanks for this nice collab.
Guenter Thanks for your very generous comments. Tom It's songs like this that make me wish I had the time and the means to make a small record company out of this forum. What a song!! Jerry Macguire once said "You had me at hello". The title on this one got me. Then I "hit play" and WOW----Great everything--written to a level that serves the great title, Killer guitar work (that solo was perfect), great vocal (as good as the guitar solo) and production that couldn't be better. One of my favorite listens anywhere for a long time!! Great job guys. Take care. Greg What a fabulous review! We couldn't be happier with your comments. Coincidentally, my wife and I were talking about that movie on the day you posted this. Thanks again, Tom Hi Tom and Josie,
A cool collaboration resulting in a professional sounding, steady rock song, nuff said.
Rob & Anne-Marie Thanks from both of us to both of you. Tom Thank you all so much for listening and your comments.
A couple of weeks ago I was listening to some of my old songs when it dawned on me that Tom's voice would be perfect for this one if he liked it. Did I ever hit pay dirt!
I love love LOVE that vocal and how he made the song his own with his changes - fit like a glove - a co-write was born and what a result. Also love how all the finessful touches in his production come together to create such a great infectuous vibe.
This collab with Tom was a real treat and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
Thank you Tom!
Josie Finessful? You're kiilin me girl. LOL!

Great collaboration. Gotta love a drinking song.
"If you want me, I'll be in the bar."
Joni
Regards,
Bob Thanks Bob. We'll see you there. Tom Tom and Josie, Wow was that 3.37, seemed to be over so quick so I pressed replay, once or twice! Josie, your backing vocals, 'specially after the first line of the chorus, are inspired. Tom your vocals and guitar are perfect! Made me wanna start drinking again Scooping a soft drink wouldn't work with this song But driving fast with this on the stereo would!! Good stuff, both Alyn Alyn, We're glad you liked this one. It was fun. Tom Carolyne, Thanks. As I said this one one was a lot of fun. Tom

Hi Josie and Tom, This is incredibly good from absolutely every which way I look at it. The lyrics cleverly pack a powerhouse of imagery and it was so very easy for me to see the whole scene of him and her unfolding in my mind. That doesn't often happen with songs and, when it does, I know that I'm listening to something very professional, very special. "Drinking In Self-Defense" is a vivid aural testimony to just how extremely capable the two of you are at songwriting, performing, arranging and mixing. Nothing is lacking. Like floyd, the "red suitcase" grabbed my attention too. Wow! That was such a terrific listen. All the best, Noel

Joanne, Thanks and yes Josie's title and idea for the song was a good one. Tom[quote=Noel96]Hi Josie and Tom, This is incredibly good from absolutely every which way I look at it. SUPER Well produced- you've got some great musical talent - and the writing is very smooth. I have a question on your master - you really had a high volume - I had to cut the volume in my headphones to save my eardrums. So how do produce that much volume w/o getting distortion. I was looking at your website - we both have a song titled "SMALL TOWN SATURDAY NIGHT" - they are very different though musically and lyrically. I liked your musical Christmas Card - very funny. I have a cynical sense of humor like you but we aim it in different directions.

I use Ozone5 for mastering. There is a maximizer module and I use the analog limiter setting and turn it back just so there is no distortion. This really increases volume w/o distortion. Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
