Hello folks, Here is a little song I hope you might find amusing, basically a rewrite of an earlier song I did last year, very similar melody. If I don't go to heaven I'll surely go to hell All comments very welcome as to how I might improve my production and any advice appreciated, that will help in future songs. Style is C_BUCK.STY (Country Buck style) Style MIDI Instruments are : Finger Electric Bass (34), Acoustic Piano (1), Acoustic Guitar (26), Clean Electric Guit (28), MIDI Drums :1 Standard Drum Kit (1) RealDrums :NashvilleSwing8^5-a:Sidestick, HiHat , b:Snare, HiHat Fiddle chops thrown in there as a few realtrack guitars (Cant remember the names) and I notated the accordion 2 midi patch Thanks Musiclover

Nice tune. I didn't really find any glaring problems with anything in your production or arrangement. Enjoyed my listen.

Music lover, fun song, liked the Celtic influence, and the video put it all together nicely.

Musiclover,
The mix is nicely balanced. Everything works and is clear and prominent. The fiddle chops are a good addition. Vocal sits well in the mix.
Having the lyric to follow along would be good (particularly for a song like this). The only suggestion (and certainly not necessary) would be to slow it down a few bpm to let the words settle in a bit.
Got as much a chuckle from your video as I did the song.

Charlie Thanks a lot for listening Charlie. Glad you enjoyed the song. Thanks for all your comments. Music lover, fun song, liked the Celtic influence, and the video put it all together nicely. Thanks Trevor, Glad you thought it was funny, I use muvee auto producer for the video, a bit like biab I always say put in the pics and it does the rest with the minimum of editing. Musiclover,

floyd Thanks for having a listen Floyd, all your comments taken on board, A really simple song compared to your professional arrangements, we love the old accordion too much here in Ireland. Glad it gave you a chuckle. Hi Musiclover,
I enjoyed this a lot. Like Floyd I'd like to see the lyrics. Nice video.
Guenter Thanks Guenter for having a listen, I like this particular movie making software for been quick to set up and the zooming in and out of the pics which is done automatically gives a nice feeling of movement to the videos that can be made. Thanks again. Having the lyric to follow along would be good (particularly for a song like this). I agree with Floyd. Really a nice tune!! Wonderful feel and very natural performance. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg Thanks Greg for having a listen and the suggestions, Still trying to get this recording lark right but it is taking some doing, will just have to stick with it. Pretty simple lyrics to this song. If I don’t go to heaven I’ll surely go to hell. I started dreaming, it was getting late. I met Saint Peter at the pearly gates, He smiled at me and he said with a grin, Don’t even try you, you’re not getting in. You’ve been a sinner all of your life, Drinking and gambling and you had three wives, I laughed at Peter and I said who cares, If I don’t go to heaven I’ll surely go to hell. Chorus If I don’t go to heaven then I’ll surely go to hell, Me and the devil will get on so well, We’ll go out drinking in the pubs down below, I hear every bar has a show-band show. I’ll drink the devils whisky and I’ll taste the devils gin, All of the vices you can count me in, I’ll be (oh) so busy meeting up with old friends If I don’t go to heaven then I’ll surely go to hell. 2 Peter turned a paler shade of white, My attitude has given him a fright, Let me see what I can do, To save a sinner as bad as you. Ten years in purgatory to cleanse your soul, Take it or leave it I can do no more, I looked at Peter and I shook my head, Just show me the road to hell instead. chorus x2 To be honest I wanted to add something at end where the dreamer won't be let in by the devil either, and has to come back to Peter to beg for 10 years in purgatory, but talking that part didn't work, could have done another verse I suppose but I was getting fed up with song. No truth in rumour though that I am the devils PR man!! Thanks a lot for all the helpful comments and ways to improve. Musiclover

Hey Musiclover! Well, that was great entertainment. When you sang... I started dreaming, it was getting late. I met Saint Peter at the pearly gates, He smiled at me and he said with a grin, Don’t even try you, you’re not getting in. ... I burst out laughing at the end of line four. Such a brilliant way to set the tone for the whole song! Very, very clever writing. These lyrics played as images in my mind while you sang and I could so easily see St Peter standing in front of the pearly gates, shaking his upright index finger like window wipers on a car and saying... "no way buddy". For me, this was pure enjoyment from top to bottom! Loved it. The sound and style is what we'd call a 'bush band' here in Australia - it's kind of folk meets sea-shanties meets Irish jigs and reels I'm really looking forward to what you'll come up with next. All the best, Noel

Hi Musiclover. Really enjoyed this song. I like that it is unpretentious and the idea we will meet all our mates in hell. Cheers.

Musiclover, A very enjoyable song. The song has a nice sound to it, not too bright or too much bass. I can envision the beer mugs swinging in the air while this is sung in a pub.

Musiclover,
I enjoyed that and it reminded me of the hangovers from the fun nights I spent in pubs in Cricklewood and Kilburn many decades ago.
All my mates are in Hell also!
Wonderful song.
Good video to go with it
Enjoyed

That was a fun listen! My only comment is that your vocal seems a bit soft to me, but it might just be your voice, and not the mix. In any event, I'd take floyd's advice any day before listening to me.

All the best, Noel Thanks Noel glad it gave you a laugh, I always appreciate your take on song, and the help that you gave doing those pdf's on how you construct your own songs. Thanks for the info too on the "bush band" does gave a new meaning to the old expression "to beat around the bush" Thanks again. Hi Musiclover. Really enjoyed this song. I like that it is unpretentious and the idea we will meet all our mates in hell. Cheers. Hey thanks a lot for having a listen Rich, glad you enjoyed having a listen and maybe gave you a laugh. Thanks Jim for taking the time to have a listen, we do love our Guinness too much here in Ireland and having a sing along to go with it. Musiclover,

Alyn Alyn thanks a lot, like yourself I too spent quite a while in London around Cricklewood Kilburn and Fulham, Fun times, I still go on google street view to have a look around even though its 20 years since I was there. ....The sound and style is what we'd call a 'bush band' here in Australia - it's kind of folk meets sea-shanties meets Irish jigs and reels No way can I best Noel's description. This was a fun listen. Nice production! J&B [/quote Thnaks a lot Janice and Bud, still learning and trying to improve the recording skills, and quite a way to go yet. That was a fun listen! My only comment is that your vocal seems a bit soft to me, but it might just be your voice, and not the mix. In any event, I'd take floyd's advice any day before listening to me. Thanks David for having a listen, will take your advice when doing the next song to see how it turns out, I got an inexpensive condenser mic so will try that next time to see how things go, maybe try a bit of EQ or something to gave vocal more bite. This was a fun listen. Nice production! J&B That was a fun listen. I think floyd is right a little slowdown might work well. Tom Thanks Tommy for taking a listen and the advice about timing, to be honest when recording that I couldn't do the vocal in one take as I would have ran out of breath, for some reason or other over here the country groups that play at open air concerts seem to speed everything up, don't really know if they do it because people are sometimes jiving and they want to give them a good quick beat to dance to. Thanks a lot everybody for all the advice, I prefer that people are straight talking and tell me where they think I could improve, really that is the only way I can learn for the future. Really appreciated everyone taking the time to listen. Musiclover
