I am trying to make a ruff demo to send to a BIAB friend so we can collaborate but the recording sound card I have (Focusrite Safire Pro 40) has 8 channels which when I am using chanel 1 to record my vocals it only is recording on the left side. There is a setting in my DAW (Samplitude Music Studio 2014) that I can change this to a mono recording and it comes in on both sides in mono of course.
How to I change this setting in BIAB and RB for recording audio, vocals etc?
I tried the settings page and chose both ASIO channels 1 and 2 (which is basically what my DAW does) but then it didn't record anything.

I tried the settings page and chose both ASIO channels 1 and 2 (which is basically what my DAW does) but then it didn't record anything. It is normal for the interface to give you only one side of the stereo input. Set the track in the DAW to the same input you have the mic plugged into .... in this case the LEFT side and you should end up with a mono signal into the track. I use Sonar and when I am setting up the track for recording in a project, I have to tell it which input I wish to use. It defaults to STEREO and if I leave it that way, I get a left side recording as well with nothing in the right side channel. I select the track input dropdown and from there choose the left input and the source from my Focusrite interface comes in as mono. Most all decent DAW's should allow you to select the Right, Left or Stereo input. Hope this helps.

Ok but the issue is not in my software Samplitude, I know how to do it there...What I don't know how to set this setting in Band In A Box or Real Band.
I can get it to record but only the left side. So how do I tel BIAB or RB I want to use a mono input left track = input 1, right track = input 2 etc if I was to record 2 simultaneous tracks etc...?
I am using input 1 on my hardware, and input 1 on the RB or BIAB.

Tony, Because a microphone is a mono input, what I do when I record audio in BIAB is to set the track to "Mono" rather than the default "Stereo". It's been a while since I've done this but, if I recall correctly, this placed the recording in the centre of the mix rather than on the left. The option to do this is found under the "Audio" menu on the top tool bar. When the subsequent menu pops up, I follow the 1, 2 shown below. Hope this helps, Noel

RB > Edit > Track > Split a stereo track into 2 mono tracks.

follow the process in Noel's post.
I don't record in BB or RB so it's never been something I had to deal with. I did a recording a few times in BB and everything seemed to work OK.... no problems in other words. All my recording is in Sonar.

Tony, ... tagging on to Solidrock's advice, it's also possible to set the track to mono in Realband 2015 by right clicking on the track and, from the pop-up menu, selecting "Track Type" at the top of the list. Regards, Noel

Ok awesome...
Yes I mostly do my recording in my DAW of choice Samplitude Music Studio 2014 but for song writing and collaboration I don't need to go to my DAW just yet and it would be easier to just fire a quick vocal etc into RB or BIAB to get the ideas down.
Thanks for the help....

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
