CHICORY

Copyright © 2014 by Scott H. Olson

In the pages of history
Going back a couple centuries
Some good ol' boys
Dug up a root
Turned out to be a coffee substitute
They call it Chicory, Chicory

Down in the Quarter of New Orleans
They grind it up with the coffee beans
Anytime, night or day
Nothin' goes better with them hot beignets
Than Chicory, Chicory

Chorus

Chicory, Chicory
I don't know where it grows, but lucky for me
Chicory, Chicory
They stock it on the shelf at my grocery
Long before coffee was sold in a can
Frederick the Great implemented a ban
And that's when they made the natural discovery
Chicory

On the corner there's a new Starbucks
You can get a mocha in a paper cup
Chocolate sprinkles, whipped up cream
With double shots of injected steam
But they ain't got I can guarantee
Chicory

Repeat Chorus

Style is _HRPBLUZ.STY (Med tempo Blues Shuffle (120 RS))

RealTracks in song: ~539:Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 120
~585:Guitar, Resophonic, Rhythm Blues Muddy Sw 120

Harmony: Nectar 2
Acoustic Guitar: Yours truly

Great song that brings back great memories.
My grandparents used to always drink chicory
coffee (back in the 50's) and I never quite got
it as a kid. My parents didn't drink it so I
was a confused a boy :-)

There's a ton to like about this, e.g., the lyric,
the melody, the vocal, the RT choice, the pickin'
and the mix. Guess that about covers the song.

It ALL works well!

One for the SC playlist indeed.

In order of appeal:

Original subject matter.
Well written lyrics.
Vocals up front and performed well.
Clean mix and well chosen, uncluttered instrumentation.

All works for me....well done.

Carry on....

I've said it before, Scotty - your vocals are spot on and you are a model of how singing should be approached and rendered. You have excellent voice control and dynamic range.

Thanks for sharing, amigo.

Cool tune with a fun groove.

Don't know that I've ever knowingly drank the stuff.

Great song and production. Like others, you really do vocals right... Nice song all around.

You've covered coffee, so is tea next? What rhymes with sassafras?

enjoyed my listen.

A very good write, Scott. Solid start to finish. Good humor without ever getting "silly". Nice.

Excellent vocal - very well recorded and sitting in the mix perfectly. Good harmonies, too... Good arrangement.

And some nice pickin'....

Very enjoyable listen.

Hi Olemon! Song was real nice and well done. My Grandparents used to drink coffee and chicory. That was the only kind of coffee they drank. I was just a kid and I would get to try some occasionally but did not like it. I always thought that chicory was used to stretch the coffee. Really enjoyed the song. occ

Scott,

This is a great listen. Everything fits together seamlessly and the whole presentation sounds as professional as anything.

I'm a fan of coffee and chicory. I used to always keep a bottle of the below stuff in my cupboard.

For some reason or other, when I last ran out, I never replaced it. I'm off to the supermarket to grab some now that you've reminded me. (According to the internet, it's still sold here!)

All the best,
Noel

Hi Scott. Really enjoyed this one. Congrats on the guitar playing. It really adds something. We have coffee called Ricoffee. 100% pure chicory I think!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
