I have just gotten BIAB 2015 and I already had the IK Total Workstation with SampleTank. When I loaded BIAB and try to load the Sampletank sounds all I get is the band in a box folder with the instruments that come with it. I want to be able to use my full version of SampleTank. When I look at the folder structure BIAB put the another copy of SampleTank inside My IK Multimedia folder and inside of that is the instruments folder. From my original install of SampleTank my instruments folder is in the IK Multimedia folder. I am not sure since I use this with my Cakewalk if it will cause problems moving the instruments around. Any ideas?

I was able to reset the folder structure so now it sees my full version of SampleTank. Problem I am having now is with the full version of SampleTank the basses sound distorted. Not sure what is going on with that.

Is it only the basses that sound distorted? Can you describe the type of distortion (over-driving, clipping, etc)

And welcome to the forum!

The bass sounded really strange not like a bass at all. I think I figured it out somewhat. I am not sure how BIAB maps to the channels on SampleTank. I found the bass maps to Channel 2. The other issue (I have had this in Cakewalk) is the bass plays an octave too low. Is there any quick way to make the bass midi play an octave higher? You can do it easily in Cakewalk.

The MIDI note that triggers a particular sound is dependent upon the synth you use. So, for example, if you used the built in Coyote softsynth, you might find the bass sounds fine, but using SampleTank, it's an octave off. I've found that different soundfonts do the same thing.

Tha being said, just go to "Opt", "Preferences", and select the "Channels" button. On this screen, you can change the Bass Octave (or any instrument for that matter).

Is there a patch map similar to the one that Coyote uses for eg the Omnisynth? When I use midi, I would prefer to use my Sampletank sounds but I just want to load a standard mapping. Nice and easy. Is it possible? This may have been covered in other posts. At the moment I load the sounds individually and have to sort of guess which sound goes where.

Just starting to use RealTracks. Impressed so far:-) Getting some great backing arrangements using BIAB. Sounds monstrous though the Radial Stage bug.

There is a list of available patch maps at this link

You might find one that could be used. There is also a tutorial on creating your own patch maps, here.

This is more complicated than that. Patchmaps are for hardware synths not software ones.

What I'm guessing you want is to be able to have Biab simply substitute ST's sounds for say, the Coyote's sounds using the same GM format. Can't be done. The reasons would take several paragraphs so just accept that.

You have to assign the midi channels to be the same instruments in both programs. It can go either way, keep the Biab channels the same and change the ST ones or vice versa.

And this is only good for one song unless all of your songs use the exact same patch for each instrument. The problem with that is GM only has one Rhodes patch for example while ST might have 10. GM only has one steel string guitar and so forth. Do you really want to be limited to the same patch every time the song calls for a Rhodes? Or, nylon guitar, or anything else? That's the reason people use a big synth like ST, you have all these different instruments to choose from.

That's the good news, the bad news is in order to use all those nice patches in Biab you need to manually set those instruments every time before you hit Play. This is why lots of folks will use a basic GM synth like Forte or the Wavetable just to audition a song, get the arrangement correct and all that then if it's a song you want to keep, switch the synth to ST and customize the patches.

And before you ask, there is very little available in GM synths. Nobody cares about them, they're all basic crappy sounding freebies useful to get you started. There are a couple of good hardware GM synths like a Sonic Cell or Ketron but those cost $4-500. The best deal is Omnisynth from IKM. It's a set of GM sounds for Sampletank and there is a tutorial here about how to "almost" automate it. You might find that in the Tips & Tricks forum.

What version of Cakewalk are you using?

Some came with TTS-1, a Cakewalk GM softsynth that sounds a lot better IMHO than the one that comes with BiaB. If you have the 32 bit version of TTS-1 then just use it.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Just an FYI to whomever

If anyone has ANY version of TTS-1 via Cakewalk Sonar (32 or 64 bit) or Music Creator (32 bit or 64 bit) they are in luck.

1. If they installed the 32-bit version of CW (sonar) or MC then the 32-bit version of the add-in TTS-1 DXi was installed by default and it will work with BIAB, RB and PTPA no further action needed

2. If they installed the 64-bit version of Sonar or MC then during that install CW software installed the 64-bit version of TTS-1 DXi - that WILL NOT WORK with BIAB, RB or PTPA (TTS-1 is a DXi not a VSTi so JBridge doesn't help here) - but you are in luck see:

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
