I did a search and couldn't find an answer to this. My hard drive is partitioned in a C and D drive. I installed the pro version 2015 on my D drive and all works okay but I have upgraded to the Mega Pak and I don't think I have enough space to install on the C or D drive. I would like to install it all on an external drive or Install just BIAB and Real Band on the D drive and the supporting files that take up all the space on an external drive. I have seen that BIAB offers that method with their hard drive but I have the downloaded version. If I run everything from an external drive will I have issues other than it runs slower? I want to avoid having to remove a lot of files from my D drive if possible.

just select the custom install and connect the external HD and let it roll.

I ran from externals in the past and they worked just fine.

Cool....thanks. Any problem with deleting the old install after I get the external drive loaded?

There are a few files such as the fonts that need to run from the primary drive. Unfortunately I don't remember seeing a list of exactly what files must remain on the primary drive so you may want to check with PG Support before uninstalling.

pedwards,

Before deleting your old install, be aware that some of the bonus tracks that come with the various releases are not always repeated.

  • For example, if you bought (say) a bonus 25 pak with version 2011, some of what was available in that pack could well be unique to BIAB/RB 2011.

If you've kept your original installation files, all you need do is re-install them. If not, then it's a matter of installing over the top of the existing directory. You could accomplish this by copying the original directory to your external drive before installing the latest version of the program.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Yes when I contacted Live Help they told me that but since I had BIAB 13 I didn't think it was worth worrying about. I loaded everything on an external drive and it seems to work with no issues so far. Only thing I did is since I have Totsl Workstation with SampleTank, I let it install the SampleTank stuff on my computer's drive. I will say it sure took a long time to get it all installed but I think it will be worth it. I am probably getting a new computer this year and it'll make it easier to transition

Hi myjamplays,

I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not but this is the BIAB Windows forum.

You'll get a quicker reply to your question if you post it in the Mac forum. Click on this link it will take you to that forum.

I'd help if I could but I don't know anything about how Mac finder behaves.

Also, if you click on the "Support" button at the top of this page, you'll find different ways that you can contact PG Music. They will help you out, too.

All the best,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
