MIDI SuperTracks are generated using a different engine than typical MIDI Style tracks for Band-in-a-Box - MIDI SuperTracks are not based on patterns; they use actual MIDI playing from musicians! You can add a MIDI Supertrack to any track or style, and they play like other MIDI tracks.

Callie, super video!

I think you should mention that with MIDI and/or MIDI SuperTracks not only can you change instruments but you can also change tempo with no artifacts. In fact you can go from Lento to Presto or visa-versa with no problems, although you might want to change that from very slow to very fast. The presentation as it stands now it appears as though you have to match the song tempo with the instrument's tempo.

Just my two cents.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Hi, Callie!

I've used MIDI SuperTracks a few times smile

LOVE THEM!

As Mario stated, they are great when a comparable RT would be stretched a bit much... and the ability to use VSTs of your choosing is terrific - allowing you (the user) more control over the sound - I particularly like that for the pianos!

Here are some songs (in the Showcase) that I found that I have used MIDI SuperTracks - typically pianos or strings...

Wow, talk about shameless plugs...and of course every one of those links is to one of YOUR songs...you only really posted here to self promote didn't you?! Rhetorical question!

Plug away FJ, I love your songs and this is a clue to how you make them sound so nice. grin

Callie ended her post with this:

I interpreted that to mean...
If you have used MIDI SuperTracks in your song, let's hear it!

I felt that I comprehended that statement without difficulty.
I graduated high school. I have 2 college degress. I never tested with any learning difficulties. And I still have all my faculties. Since I do not know you, I can't speak for you or your comprehension.

I prefaced my list with:
"Here are some songs (in the Showcase) that I found that I have used MIDI SuperTracks."

I can't, for the life of me, figure out why it seems such a surprise to you that I listed MY songs.
I believe I have used MIDI SuperTracks more often than anyone else (who posts in the Showcase) has.
I assumed (and perhaps that assumption was wrong) that PGMusic would like to have examples of MIDI SuperTracks being used - to show people who might not have used them yet what they were and what they might do.

Therefore, I listed examples. I know where I have used them. Are you suggesting that I should have listed other peoples songs? It would take hours (days, even) to dig through all the songs in the Showcase to find even a few examples. THAT would be stupid. You are more than welcome to prove me wrong if you choose.

I do not sell my music (in fact, I give it away - if anyone would choose to have it). I am not asking anyone for money. I am not sure how listing examples where I have used MIDI SuperTracks (as was asked) can be considered "shameless plugs" or "posted here to self promote". My songs are in the Showcase for anyone to hear and those here have heard them already if they want to. If someone happens by that have not heard my songs and they are interested in hearing MIDI SuperTracks - well, there's MY list. And, yes, they are ALL MY songs. Scratching my head about that one!

I bought BIAB because I heard a bunch of songs (in the Showcase) that Steve Young had done. His work showed me that BIAB was, in fact, "for real" - That you really COULD produce good music using the product (very good, in fact) . I am SO grateful to him for that! I truly hope that someone else will hear what I do using BIAB and it will convince THEM to buy BIAB. I know a few people in other forums that have purchased BIAB because of my productions. (Yes, I do post my songs in other places - shameful as that might be).

I AM proud of my songs and proud of the work I do using BIAB. I want other people to hear them.
I post in the Showcase and for TWO WHOLE WEEKS! my songs might get listened to... maybe 2 or 3 DOZEN listens! Makes your head spin, I know.

I understand that you cannot post your songs becasue they would be stolen and you would not participate in the fortune that would ensue, so examples of MIDI SuperTracks in your work is out. Feel free to list my songs as examples if you are ever asked.

I don't know why you have chosen to get so snide. Did I wrong you in some way and you are trying to "get back" at me for something? Or are you just trying to show the person you really are? Rhetorical question!

Callie - I have abandoned any further attempts to get Midi supertracks to work with my BIAB2015 Everythingpak.
Nothing I do makes them work.Boy, have I tried!!! (and I've followed to the letter every link our helpful guys on here have kindly given me but still no Joy.)
Sometimes I can see that they are playing in the mixer but no sound comes out. Sometimes I get Error messages that mean absolutely nothing to me.
However clever and wonderful they are, it all fails if a non-IT person, like me, cant figure out how to get them working.
SO - bring on MORE REAL TRACKS, and especially some more non-Jazz, non Latin Real Drum tracks.
Ian

Ian,
Are you confusing Midi Supertracks with HiQ Instruments? The first behaves like any other midi instrument when it is played and should be no problem for you. The Latter requires ST2 which has been the source of many issues.

Excellent response and plus one from me too for you to -- plug away...

When I read that post I thought it was being made by someone you knew and was an inside joke between the two of you.

As far as I know, that information has not been made available tet to the general public (unlike being able to make your own MIDI styles and UserTracks/RealDrums).

It would be nice to know a little bit more about them and to be able to roll our own. The impression I get is that the SuperTrack engine works more like the RealTracks engine in choosing phrases to play, as opposed to the standard MIDI style engine (but I could be wrong).

That's the way I understand it.

I've made some Real Tracks at home, but my studio is not set up for audio, so they work well, but due to the acoustics, fan noise and host of other interference problems, I would neither use them, give them away nor sell them. I've deleted the files. It was a fun experiment though.

The building was constructed in 1950 and there are too many reflective surfaces, plus there is car and boat traffic noise plus the occasional train. If I close the windows and turn the AC on, there is the hummmmmmmmm.

Studio time is expensive, and as a third party cottage industry, I can't justify the cost. Same for remodeling a room to be an acoustic studio.

But MIDI is another story. No need for the room to be quiet and acoustically dead. Plus MIDI is thousands of times more editable than audio, so the end user can after saving to a DAW or Sequencer, change instruments, edit notes, transpose without artifacts, add song specific licks, etc.

So a Super-MIDI StyleMaker would be a great toy for many of us.

Post away there Floyd. Listening to your tunes, I finally learned how to use the SuperMidi's. I'm here to learn and people like you are making it happen!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
