This is the first song I've written in two years. [Link no longer valid] It was inspired by a beautiful song: John Hiatt's "Feels Like Rain" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tw-yZB-frcRealtracks:Drums-Rock ModernRnB; Bass 366; Acu Piano 1542; Elc Piano 912; Elc Gtr strum 166; Horns 2290 ; Slide Gtr solo 382 Meet Me Down In New Orleans (8-11-2015) You are tender as a rose/ and I am a storm You’ve had the moonlight in your eyes/ since the day you were born There’s a south wind blowing/ the salt air in from the sea Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans Come hear the Paddle boat calling/ hear it’s steam whistle blow It’s playing just for you darling/ It misses you don’t you know Come feel the rolling Mississippi/ Come find me on St. Peters Street Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans Don’t bother bringing your umbrella/ I’ll be your shelter if it rains And I won’t wait to read your letter/ I’m headed there right now on faith Were all of my mistakes so binding/ Am I ever to be free Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans I’ll be waiting there for you lady / in New Orleans Meet me down in New Orleans baby/ Meet me down in New Orleans

Lawrence, love the song the soloist goes a "little of the wall" in places, needs to push the bend a little more imho. but otherwise a wonderful song deserving of at least 2 plays nice vocals as usual. love the brass (?) under "meet me down in New Orleans" One thing I noticed is the song went too quickly considering the length and never lost my attention. A bit of a Joe Cocker vibe good stuff, don't wait 2 years to write another enjoyed a lot Alyn

Hey, Lawrence,
Very nice. Your vocals and expression really make this an enjoyable song.
I really like the section with the entrance of the horns, followed by the guitar. Great choice of instruments.
Two years is a long interval - glad the inspiration hit you, and I hope there's more to follow.

Very good tune. I also liked the Horns and the slide fills later in the song. Sung with feeling.

Lawrence, I get the Cocker reference, but you are unique. You've got that Delta vibe in your voice that reminds me of Dr. John - only better. Love the instrumentation, and the build on this one. Two years? Get busy, man! Regards, Bob

You know, all of your tracks that I've heard share an authenticity and a real sense of personal expression in the music and in your vocals. It could be on the radio, while driving on a hot, steamy night in the rain. Like a previous post said, don't wait another two years.... Good guitar and fills, always like horns, and I'll be listening again.

Powerful stuff. This is excellent at every level. Some of the highest vocal emotional energy I've heard on the forum in a while.
Excellent, excellent work all around.

Always love to hear you sing. This was a great vehicle!
That opening piano was super.
Very expressive slide - you played that, I assume?
Great listen.

A bit of a Joe Cocker vibe good stuff, don't wait 2 years to write another enjoyed a lot Alyn Alyn, thank you for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I comped the solo in Sonar from four takes. Sonar has a really fluid comping system now. But I'd like to now what you mean by "push the bend". Do you mean string bending? I've added the realtracs and the brass are horns 2290. Hey, Lawrence,
Very nice. Your vocals and expression really make this an enjoyable song.

Two years is a long interval - glad the inspiration hit you, and I hope there's more to follow. Thank you Curt. I did 8 vocal takes over two days looking for the right feel. Some were too soft, some to gravelly. I went with take six with no edits. I added Melodyne about 60% pitch correction and about 30% pitch shift correction. Very good tune. I also liked the Horns and the slide fills later in the song. Sung with feeling. Peter, thanks for listening and commenting Lawrence, I get the Cocker reference, but you are unique. You've got that Delta vibe in your voice that reminds me of Dr. John - only better. Love the instrumentation, and the build on this one. Two years? Get busy, man! Regards, Bob Bob, thank you. I'm glad you like it. That's a big complement being compared to Dr. John thank you. And I hope it doesn't take me two more years to write again.

Well worth the wait I would say. Sounds like Leon Russell. I was dying to play some guitar. I felt like a howling wolf and I wanted to go down to the crossroads for some strange reason. I also wanted to go back to Alcatraz. What kind of a weird Cajun voodoo spell have you cast on me brother? Love it! Write a another one. Gregg Allman wants to hear it I swear.

Alyn, ....... But I'd like to now what you mean by "push the bend". Do you mean string bending? I've added the realtracs and the brass are horns 2290. sorry Lawrence but yes, string bending. I thought the bend didn't quite hit the "intended" note. But I withdraw my comment, with embarrassment, because listening to my latest song MY 1st bend misses the mark also, and I was playing it Also wow you used Melodyne, I thought your vocal was un-tuned. Another listen confirms that this song is STILL absolutely excellent. oh and get writing some more soon Alyn

floyd Floyd, I listened to your recent post carefully so that I could get the piano as close to what you did. The slide was BIAB. Man, I wish I could sing like that!!! Your vocals always kill me. David I'll have to ask my Cajun grandmother about the voodoo. Thanks for listening. sorry Lawrence but yes, string bending. I thought the bend didn't quite hit the "intended" note. I think it may be the horns trying to play some jazz chording? And I'm working on a new one right now with the funk groove. Steely Dan style.

Well, it appears that everybody has parsed out all the components pretty well so we'll stick with the overall song. As I mentioned when we like a song it's hard for us to break it down for analysis. So......we are also Hiatt fans and are familiar with the song you mentioned. But we like your voice a lot better. You are really good at putting a ton of emotion in your vocals and never sounding overwrought. Got that sweet spot nailed!
Great write and production to go with the killer vocal.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
