The Linden Tree

The linden tree is clothed in green
Always the last to dress in Spring
They say it’s a tree of peace and love
And a cure for all that ails you

I once knew a girl with a crooked smile
She knew my secrets, ever one
She said I know just what you need
It’s the cure for all that ails you

The cure for all that ails you
The one thing that never fails you
The cure for all that ails you
Is love, love, love

I once knew a man with a roving eye
And a talent to dissemble
He wooed that girl with the crooked smile
Till he had her all a tremble

Oh the cure for all that ails you
The on thing that never fails you
The cure for all that ails you
Is love, love, love

Now the linden tree has shed her leaves
And he laughs at her reproaches
No more she smiles her crooked smile
As the Winter chill approaches

Now the cure for all that ails you
Is the one thing that always fails you
The cure for all that ails you
Is love, love, love

Peter,

Very nice arrangement - and a super mix! on this...

Nice instrumentation, too.

A very interesting write - both lyrically and melodically. Haunting.
Some very interesting lines..

"I once knew a man with a roving eye
And a talent to dissemble"

"And he laughs at her reproaches"

I especially like those...

floyd

Hi Peter,

very interesting song, lyrically and
musically. Doesn't sound like a
folk song at all.
Enjoyed it.

Mighty fine choice of instruments and the overall sound is excellent. I do think the 12-string might be a tad loud for the voice -- or maybe it should be panned right more (something needs to be panned further right). I like the percussion choice, too.

Now at bandcamp: Crows Say Vee-Eh @ bandcamp or soundcloud: Kevin @ soundcloud

Peter,

Nice vocals and chord sequence leaning towards the psychedelic folk-rock scene in London in the early 1970's.
The lyrics are wonderfully surreal which add to that vibe, man! crazy laugh

A beautifully relaxing song.

Very nice

Alyn

Peter,

I really enjoyed this tune - it has a Nick Drake vibe to it that sounds great.

I agree with the above sentiments.
This tune also has a Lennon McCartney feel to it as well.
You are in good company. Great lyrics.

Thanks all for the comments.
Charlie, Floyd & Guenter - always look forward to your comments and suggestions.
Kevin & Greg - thanks for the suggestions.
Alyn - enjoyed the psychedelic reference man.
Bob - I was going for a Nick Drake feel - unfortunately we can't re-create the vocal style.
Rob - Bragged to my wife about the Lennon McCartney feel -thanks.

Peter, This is very beatlesque. A very unusual chord progression that works to get across the haunting feeling. Nice mix and vocals. Tom

My impressions the first few beats in were "what on earth is this, I don't care for this one bit". But I stuck with it and it grew on me more so than I would've expected, so much in fact that by the time the perc kicked in I wouldn't have stopped listening if my house was on fire!

And I still have no idea what on earth this is laugh

Very unique mix of textures that drew me in more as the song went on. Well crafted. Nice vocal and harmonies too.

Thanks - glad you liked my small part - the harmony (I do my best - vocals not my strong point)
