A Hundred Miles From Austin
©2015 Robert Randall Burke

I'm only 'bout a hundred miles from Austin
Hopin' she'll be waitin' for me there
My V8's makin' wicked time
A couple hours and she'll be mine
A yellow rose of Texas in her hair.

There's sure a lot of pretty girls in Texas
They grow 'em very beautiful down there
But of all the girls in the Lone Star State
Only one makes me palpitate
A yellow rose of Texas in her hair.

Mile markers flashing by
I've got that pedal down
Underneath that Texas sky
We're gonna paint the town
I'm only 'bout a hundred miles from Austin
Hopin' she'll be waitin' for me there.

Bob

Bob, a really great number. You've put this together well, the lyrics are great, and the overall song has a fantastic toe-tappin' feel. The tune reminds me a little of 'Six Days On The Road' (Dave Dudley), so it already created some nostalgia.

I really liked the lyrics, and the line: 'A yellow rose of Texas in her hair.' put the icing on the cake.

Nice

Loved it. What a cool way to start the song. And it has a really spot on Texas two-step swing.

Nice unique chords in this one... from the verses to the choruses.

I immediately thought of Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel....

then you hit the instrumental break...and the fiddle and steel nailed it. The only nit is the fiddle break was a single fiddle and not a twin texas fiddle break, but hey... I still like it.

Bob,

A good ole foot tappin', desk slappin' song.
I like the line " A yellow rose of Texas in her hair."

I can almost imagine me driving and listening to this and then trying to get the exhaust note in tune, but then I'd be in Austin a lot quicker or be the proud owner of a speeding ticket mad

great stuff

Good one, Mr. Burke!

palpitate. Pretty fancy word...

Good everything. The drums sound especially nice (did you add cymbal sounds?)

Keep this up and you will end up on the I75 tour...

Bob, Have I ever heard the word palpitate in a song? Hmmm. I'll bet Lyle Lovett would love it! The second chord is a nice touch. Great vocal. Sounding really good. Tom

Trev,

Thanks for listening and the kind remarks. We actually cover "6 Days", and are working this one up to play live as well.

Oh man do we ever love Western Swing and this one,
well, it SWINGS!

Great vocal delivery that is reminiscent of Tommy Duncan's
super smooth work with Bob Wills.

All that's plenty for us but then toss in a fine write and
the perfect mix for the genre we'll just serve up a big
"WOW!"

Enough said other than we purchased a download
for one of our swing playlists.

Nice!

Well Bob, you got my vote. I immediately thought of Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel.... what Guitarhacker said!!

Texas swing for sure!! Sounds like you may have spent some time in Texas or a least listen to some Texas swing.

I hear Asleep At The Wheel on the radio in Texas from time to time and this song would play well there.

"My V8's makin' wicked time" is a cool line.

Good stuff.

Cheers,

Billy

Alyn,

Thanks for listening.

Fj,

Yeah, “palpitate” is a strange one. I just write down what the voices tell me to. grin Thanks for listening.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
