Hello! Sorry if this is a popular topic, but I couldn't find a related thread.
I want to use BIAB for solo gigs (sax player). I have a PC desktop, but I was hoping to just take a tablet or Ipad to the gig. But then, I don't want to buy a laptop just for the purpose of BIAB. What equipment do you use? PA, hardware, effects, entire setup?

The easiest way I've found is to mix our tracks to 320 MP3s and play them on a laptop (but it could be done on a tablet as well). Others like to use MIDI live. Too complex for me; I'm a simpleton.  As for gear, that depends on: How much money are you willing to spend? How large are the venues you will be playing? Do you want a small system or a full-blown PA? We're a duo, playing mostly bars, so our needs might be different than yours. We're running two Yammy 15's on sticks, 2 12” Yammy floor monitors and an 18” JBL powered sub. QSC PLX1804 amp, dbx 2231 GEQ, Soundcraft EFX8 mixer, Peavey Classic 30 tube guitar amp, Fender Bassman 250/210 bass amp. We use Shure Bets 87a condenser mics. Toshiba laptop into a Peavey USB-P box into mixer. Takes a small trailer to haul it, and an hour to set it up, but it it will rattle the walls if I need to.  If you're playing jazz sax in small rooms, you might be a good candidate for a Bose system. Hope this helps. Regards, Bob

That's some great equipment!
I was thinking more of playing jazz in the corner of a restaurant or bar. My thought was to create the BIAB file at home and upload to a tablet or Ipad for the gig.
I'll look into a Bose system. Do the sounds from a tablet or Ipad work well?

Thanks! In that case, you might be better off with a tiny mixer and a single powered speaker on a stick. If you only have the one live input (Sax) you could do away with the mixer. Here is one: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EON6101000 watts at 26 pounds, $359. A Bose L1 will set you back around $900. Small footprint, quick setup. Might be perfect for your situation. A buddy of mine used to gig the cruise ships for years. They provided the PA system. For the last few years he was there they provided the Bose system and he loved it.
Very small, yet full sounding and powerful enough to handle the small to medium sized rooms.
Not cheap, but most good gear isn't. But good gear is worth the price. At least, that has been my experience.

Thanks in advance!!! If you are on a budget you might try this unit, Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active 150-Watt PA/Monitor Speaker System. I got mine for $129 about 3 years ago and have only used it for guy-with-guitar-corner-of-the-bar gigs but it is fairly loud, sounds nice and mounts on a standard mic stand. I bought a couple of Behringer XM8500 Microphones for $20 each and they sound as good as my $105 Shure SM58s. This is certainly not as good as what others have suggested but might be just the thing if you are on a budget or not sure how far into this you will get! I know some folks do not like Behringer and I must admit the first unit I got had a problem but it was quickly replaced and works great to this day. My feeling on Behringer is when you get a good one you are set!

Is there a noticeable improvement in sound quality when using the Stagebug DI rather than a direct cable from the phones output of a tablet/phone/laptop with split 1/4 connectors plugged into a mixer? Thanks

Thanks I believe that the Peavey USB-P is superior to the Radial. First, it uses a USB (digital) port, while the Radial uses the laptop's 1/8 mini jack (analog & noisy). Second, it features two balanced XLR's out, and can be run in stereo. The Radial only has one XLR, and it sums to mono. +1 for Bob (90db) who commented about the 1/8" mini jack that laptops and MP3 players have. I do anything I can to avoid using those. The are not only noisy as he said, but over time they often break. They aren't terribly secure, either - they are easily pulled out giving a big 'scratch and whump' sound. Yes, I know...
When I have to perform alone live, I use a digital player with a digital output, and play .WAV files. That can go into my amp or a soundboard as needed.
If you do have to use an 1/8" output jack, try to find a player that has a "Line Out" jack rather than "Headphone Out" jack. It's a much better match for an amp, level and impedance-wise.

I stand corrected. I didn't want anything that used USB as I only have one USB 3 output on my tablet and I have enough stuff going in and out of it already. I've noticed a great improvement in sound from the computer or phone socket but it sounds like the Peavey may be the way to go.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
