Hey Y'all,

I haven't posted a country ballad in a long time so I hope you enjoy this one. I first wrote Missing Me seven years ago when I was going through the grieving process. I thought about it a few weeks ago and decided to finally finish it.

Fair warning - it's a country tearjerker.

MISSING ME
©2015 Josie Beck

On the outside I look better
Now that I can laugh and crack a joke
And I can smile when I say your name
Without that lump caught in my throat
My eyes aren't red and swollen anymore
From crying every hour
It looks like I'm getting on with my life
But no one sees inside

I'm missing me
the way I used to be
When we were a family
and me and you were we
Oh when you and I were us
God knows I loved you so much
Now that I'm finally getting through
the pain of losing you
I'm missing me

On the inside I know better
I try to make it day by day
And I still dream of the old days at night
Wishing I could feel the same old way
I know you're up in Heaven looking down
And you don't want me feeling sad
but the part of me that left with you
is never coming back

I used BIAB/RB and mixed in Reaper. The original style was _sbaljj1.sty. All music tracks are RTs and vocals by yours truly. RTs used are: 366 Bass, Drums NashEven8, 1725 Piano, 1513 Guitar, 2325 String Quartet

Your thoughts are always appreciated.

Hi Josie. Country tearjearker indeed. And very well done.
Like the lyrics and the hook idea of missing me as I used to be.
Good one. Cheers.

Really liked the presence of your voice in this one Josie. A really nice mix, and yes, a Country Tear-jerker.

The fiddle carried the song very sensitively. I especially liked the phrasings. A great contribution.

Trev

PS: somewhat sadly, I understand that there are some real-world events that lead to the song.

Sounds like a country classic. Well written, well sung, and an excellent arrangement. The chorus (and harmony) is particularly strong. The only thing it lacks is some pedal steel guitar. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Lovely production (but as you say a tear-jerker) - something in your voice reminded me of Christine McVie.

Oh wow Josie!

That is just perfect and sounds like the sort of song which could earn money.

Loved everything about it and wouldn't change a thing.

Your voice sounds fabulous and the harmony is amazing. You were obviously going to sing this with emotion, but I have to say that it really comes through and makes the song what it is - perfect.

Just going to find the Kleenex before another listen.

Take care, ROG.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite from you.

The melody and progression reminded me a lot of some of David Allen Coe's classic country tunes.

Nice lyrical work in the chorus. This is also classic country word smithing.

My only nit is on the vox. Just a touch of melodyne to pull things into line would be a perfect touch. The chorus harmonies are really sweet... man I really loved the sound of the harmonies, however, I hear too many artifacts through out. Sounds like you used a harmonizer to create them.

Nits aside.... this is a really well done song.

Hi Josie,
The process of loving and then losing someone is masterfully described in this song from someone who could only have gone through it. And then for you to take it to the next step in wanting to find your old self again is just genius. I really enjoyed your writing and your vocals were just perfect. Great song!

Josie, I'm on my 4th listen and not my last. I love the write, the melody and your vocal reading of the piece. My new favorite. Classic country! Nice work on the backing tracks. The only nit I have is the intro. Sometimes those piano tracks sound a little funny changing chords. ( depends on the progression ). I would have lengthened the intro a bit to smooth it out some. Your voice sounds spectacular on this. Lady you can really sing! ( and write ) This is so very good. Congrats on a job extremely well done! Tom

Josie,

Your best, I think. Classic country sound. The melody on the chorus is a stand-out.

Nice arrangement and mix. Good use of the strings.

This is gorgeous. Your best to date (that I've heard). Sorry for your loss, but some great songs have come from pain, and this is one of them.

Regards,

Bob

Thank you Trev! Yeah, writing songs helped me get my feelings out then I found it too hard to revisit that emotional place for a long time.

Thank you David! Would you believe I tried pedal steel first - for some reason I just couldn't get the licks and sound I wanted so I finally abandoned it and went with the string quartet.

Notation Enhancements in Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows!

There are Notation Enhancements in the NEW Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows! These include:
•A new button in the Print Options dialog which lets you quickly print a "chords only" fake sheet. You can also access this from the right-click menu on the chord sheet.
•A new track type (Drums) is now available for The Melody and Soloist tracks.
•Clicking close to a stave line will put a note on the stave line instead of between stave lines. (Previously, you had to click extremely close to a stave line to insert a note on The line.)
•Double-clicking on the Standard mode Notation window (or on the time line in Editable or Staff Roll mode) plays the song from the current time location. Previously, it played the song from the beginning of the current bar.
•Holding down the [Ctrl] key and pressing the zoom in/out buttons results in finest possible incremental adjustment in size.
•In The Notation Windows Options dialog, The clefs split point asterisk indicates that C5* is middle C.
•Pressing The space bar plays the song from the current time location, not the current bar.
•The clefs split point can be set by the spin controls.
•The right-click menu in the Editable or Staff Roll mode Notation window has an option to change the current beat resolution. Previously, the only way to do this was to right-click on the time line.
•There's a keystroke entry notation mode - the 'N' mode, which lets you enter a melody entirely using keystrokes. The keystrokes are N to enter a note, up/down cursor to change its pitch, and left/right cursor to move the time line.
•You can now edit any track in the Event List Editor. When The dialog opens, it will show you the MIDI data in the current Notation track.
•You can quickly enter forced accidentals from the right-click menu.

We talk about these new features within our Band-in-a-Box® 2019 for Windows®! New Features, RealTracks, and other content! video:
