I just opened a couple of songs I've been mixing in RealBand and find that the settings in the Vst plugins I'm using are gone. The plugins are still there but installing the 2016 upgrade five days ago must have nullified the settings on every track. I was working on the songs before I installed the upgrade and just got back to work them today. I don't remember being advised of this situation during the 2016 upgrade installation. Why the extra work PGMusic?

I've noticed this also. I have further insight but am sworn to secrecy. <grin>
Anyway, I'm joining your parade. Opening a project and having it sound totally different, only to find VST settings were lost was disconcerting. (hey, another grin!>
Luckily backup versions allowed me to quickly Save/Load Presets and Groups so everything was back fairly quickly.

Thanks for sharing that, I thought maybe I'd done something wrong on the install. I'll try going to my cloud storage and see if I can recover the settings that way. Luckily I don't use that many effects and I tend to use the same presets and settings. It might not look so pretty for other RB users.

Regards and best for the holidays.

Not sure why that would happen. I just loaded in a .SEQ from 2006 which has both DirectX as well as VST effects and the song sounds the same as before.

Unless maybe there was something about the installation process that does this rather than RealBand itself?

Hi Jeff, Thanks for your comments.

I just opened the final mix of a song I finished in mid-November, and the same thing has happened. Makes all the work I've done on all the songs in my song file for naught. I rarely use this phrase, but - THAT SUCKS!

Luckily, my .wav masters are unaffected (so far). If this is a widespread issue, I think you guys better fix it soon and/or warn potential users before they download the 2016 update.

Used standard install here (programs on C: and RTs on external drive. Not a lot of other options where we could affect the install.

Sonny, you could try using 'File - Open Backup' and go to C:\Realband\backups. See if it happens when loading a backup file.

If you use the same presets a lot, take advantage of the Save Preset and Save Group options in the effects section. Then you can just re-load them and save the seq file again.

I'm not glad the problem exists but glad I'm not the only one with an issue this time.
As Mac used to say; it's probably rharv's fault. Oh wait ...

Hi rharv,
Thanks for the advice. I went to my RB backups and opened various copies of various songs and got the same results: the plugins on each track are there, but the presets are blank.

I guess I'll (or we'll) have to live with it. I just hope the next update, if there is one, doesn't wipe out my new preset settings again.

I guess you can blame me for the problem, or we can blame each other...

Regards and best wishes for the holidays,

Okay, I did just figure out what is going on. This can be fixed for a future build, so that RB will then be able to load in all the VST settings from older .SEQ files, but the problem will be that it won't be able to load in VST settings from any .SEQ saved from RB 2016, prior to the new build. It is annoying, but there is nothing that can really be done about that.

Oh, and to be clear, this not something that got suddenly got introduced in the shipping version...it got introduced in the first Beta version of 2016, but was never reported until after already shipping. Had it been reported during the Beta then we could have fixed this before shipping, but it wasn't brought to our attention soon enough.

Ouch...this one hurts. Been holding off upgrading till the dust settles a little. But this one is a bit of a concern. Any ideas when a new build would be available? Inquiring Santas want to know!

I would hope by the end of the week. There is a new build. It just needs to be tested a little before making available.

Thanks,

I would think that RealBand 2016 is new enough, such that the greater impact for missing VST settings would be on those that have pre-2016 existing SEQ files over time.

LOL. Not necessarily their fault if they didn't happen to notice it. Only reason I mentioned that was to clear up some confusion as to when the issue got introduced.

Just wanted to make sure you saw this, Jeff.
I think Jeff's reference to beta may have been from a post in another forum ... just to clear things up.

I'm currently on vacation, and, yes, there is a Build 3, but it doesn't appear that the development team tested and released it yet. Not sure why they haven't. Maybe email support and ask them about this?

Thanks,

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
