Hi,

today I seem to come up with all my RB questions...

I have Forte as my regular synth. For horn tracks I just bought 'Virtual Horns' that have to be used via the Kontakt 5 VST plug-in. When I re-open the song, the horn tracks are no longer connected to Kontakt, but use Forte again. That means that I have to reset the whole Kontakt environmen every time I want to work in that song.

Does this have to be that way, or have I overlookede any setting?

Thanks for your help

what build are you using

Summary of Changes for 2016 Build 3 (Dec 28, 2015)

Fixed: VST plugin settings were not being loaded in correctly from .SEQ files.

Thanks for your hints, but I am using RB 2016 Build 3.

Since I saved my work with that same version I cannot tell, wether it saved or loaded incorrectly. Perhaps there is still a problem with saving the VST settings...?

Just curious. Are you saving your songs as a .SEQ file or as a .MID file? If a .MID file, it will not save any of your VSTi information. You have to save as a .SEQ file to preserve the instruments and effects.

Thanks John.

Of course it's a SEQ-file - it's packed with audio tracks. I tried a completly new .SEQ-file: no VST settings when re-loaded...

Just thought I'd ask, since you mentioned Kontakt, which implies MIDI data. Others have made that mistake of saving as MIDI, then wondering what happened to their VSTi assignments.

Something I should add:

If I unselect the box 'Route to dvx...' (Options / Preferences / MIDI Devices) before saving my file, nothing changes: When re-loaded there isn't any information about the Kontakt-VST-plug-in I used in my horn tracks.

If I re-route RB to Kontakr there generally, Kontakt is of course shown among fx in every MIDI track, but still there is no information that I connected Virtual Horns with my tracks...

Just to make it clear: This only happens with VST plug-ins, any other fx works fine.

Having the Virtual Horns load up as the sound in Kontakt may be something that RB has no way of saving.
After you load Kontakt in RB, do you have to make adjustments to it so it uses Virtual Horns? In other words, does it have to be told to use a certain library of sounds?

How is the original file set up to use Kontakt (as the default synth or on an additional Port)?

Have you tried testing Save Preset or Save Group in the FX window (and then loading them as needed)?

Hello rharv,

thank you so much: Saving the Kontakt set-up as an FX preset is the solution.

You asked how Kontakt works: Well, it's sort of a container for samples made by various companies (like Native Instruments or Big Fish, just to name some real good ones). After assigning Kontakt as a VST plug-in to one or more tracks, you can load any instrument of any compatible sample library you bough into it. Every instrument gets assigned to one MIDI channel, you always can specify certain settings within every single instrument, e.g. room etc.

And an FX preset is able to store everything - one click, and the original settings are there again .

You really made my day - thanks again.

I have some synths that this is the best available work-around, so thought I'd share. Glad it helped.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
