Hi All.

Thought I'd have a go at some Pop/Jazz/Funk this time, so plenty of 9ths and min7ths, with a funky five-string bass and lots of stacked vocals. This type of music kicked off in the late 70s and early 80s, though you can still find bands playing this stuff on tour these days.

The piano is Yamaha DX7, (well you'd have to, wouldn't you?) the horns are mainly Forte supplemented by some trumpets from Edirol Orchestral, the strings are Edirol and the solo sax is my old friend RT Hip Hop Tenor Sax.

As usual, the project was completed from start to finish using Realband and Powertracks.

LIFE GOES ON
It's hopeless situation
Another two hearts are going to break
It's such a shame
Anybody could have told them
It's just another chance you have to take
It's all the same
But life goes on, yes life goes on
And life goes on day by day
Life goes on, yes life goes on
And life goes on the same old way

Anybody could have told them
They're always going to be the last to know
That's how it goes
But life goes on, yes life goes on
And life goes on day by day
Life goes on, yes life goes on
And life goes on the same old way

Always grateful to anyone who has the time to listen. Many thanks.

ROG,

An excellent pop write. A solid lyric for this type song - not always an easy thing to do...

The little musical figure after day-by-day and same old way - super nice!!!

Sax is stellar. The musical drop at 2:03 is well done.

Sweet vocals and harmonies.

Good "grabby" beginning - gets ya rockin' in your chair right off the bat. This sounds like it came off the radio from that era. Very singable. Smooth and catchy.

Listened on phones and speakers. Excellent mix.

Really enjoyed that.

I really like the 80's feel of the song, reminds me of Spandau Ballet and Simply Red I used to listen to back then. Great vocals. And you can always trust on that tenor sax smile

Yeah I agree with everyone, this is a solid and very enjoyable pop write. It does seems totally 80s by that is why I like it, it reminded me of ELO and I miss the good old days! smile

Excellent production. I too would love an entire album of stuff like this!

Great job. Your voice sounds, really, really good on this by the way.

Hi There ROG, this sounds really good, sort of a marriage between Steely Dann and ELO.
Very nice work again!

ROG, Great work. The simple write, the era correct DX7, a fabulous vocal and a fantastic mix all combine to make this a super sounding track. First class pro production. Tom

Hi ROG. The layered vocals and reverb definitely give this an 80s feel. Enjoyed it!

Hi Floyd.

Many thanks for the very detailed review, even to the point of spotting that little syncopated figure - that was good of you. The sax RT really is something, isn't it. I've just loaded in my Everything Pack and I can't wait to get immersed in all the new RTs - I only had a basic pack before.

I'm always grateful for reassurance about the vocals, as you know, so thanks for that!

I always like to pay attention to the intros, so I'm glad you approved of this one. I remember seeing the guys at the record companies listening to 10 seconds of a cassette and then binning it, so I like to make a mark early on!

Phones and speakers - very thorough and glad it held up.

Once again, thanks for taking the time for such a comprehensive review.

ROG.

Hi Janne.
Many thanks for the listen and kind comments. Yes, I listened to a lot of Simply Red back then, too. Happy days.

Great listen. Janice immediately said it reminded her of some of the great 80's movie soundtracks like Arthur.

The stacked vocals are perfect and the sax fit like a glove - Hip Hop? Who would've thought. You stated your production goal and to our ears you absolutely nailed it.

Everything here is hitting the note!

We enjoyed the spin....

Very cool song!! A little Alan Parsons, a little ELO, and a lot of ROG. Vocals are sweet, and that sax sounded completely custom! Everything works great in this one. Great job!! Take care. Greg
