You might be wondering why Janice, with a voice like an angel, would agree to sing a duet with me. I don't know either, but being probably Janice's biggest fan, I'm SO pleased she did. I'm particularly surprised because this song takes Janice in a different direction to her usual work, but when the track came back I was left in no doubt that Janice can turn her hand to anything she chooses. Many thanks Janice.

The RTs are -
Drums RD Hip Hop
Harmonica RT602
Sax RT1643
Bass RT514
The Brass, Hammond and Guitars are down to me.

ALL I NEED IS YOU
I don't need no weather man to say
Just how the wind is blowing
I don't need no Google maps because
I know which way I'm going
And I don't need to take no pills
Any time I'm feeling blue
And I don't need nobody
'Cos all I need is you.

I'm not looking for a hero
I'm not looking for a king
I'm not looking for a millionaire
Don't need that kind of thing
And I'm not looking for a therapist
Just to help me think it through
And I'm not looking for nobody
'Cos all I need is you.

Sometimes I wonder
What it is can make me feel this way
Sometimes I wonder
What it is that makes me feel this way

I don't want no confrontation
I don't want to shout or scream
I don't want no empty promise
I don't want no foolish dreams
And I don't want to play no games
The kind that leave you feeling blue
Oh yeah, yes it's true
And I don't want nobody
'Cos all I want is you.

Everything was recorded in Realband except Janice's vocal which Bud recorded.
The mix and mastering was done in Powertracks.

As usual, many thanks to all who have time to listen.

ROG.

I'm not lookin' for Frank Sinatra or Bonnie Raitt... All I need is what I got from this song... and it was just perfect!

Not only was this a different kind of project for Janice, but you used a little more RT in this song.. you usually do it all! (in fact, you still did quite a bit of it! And that's part of the ROG magic that keeps drawing me back to your songs with anticipation!)

What can I say...? I LOVED THIS! Totally natural feel to the song, fun and groovy, with all the parts working together to fill out the empty spaces in the song!

Janice, you really are an amazing chameleon who adapts perfectly to your song environment! You've shown us over and over again that you can step into any song and make it your own!

Rog, I like everything about this song.. that bass RT is a great fit... and the harmonica snippet used as a motif REALLY works well.. especially in conjunction with the horns!

I also like the use of echo on multiple tracks.. it gives the whole song a very "live" arena feel!

One of the challenges inherent to any project (audio or video) that mixes media from different sources, is that of unifying the look and feel so it all comes across as a unified projects instead of a bunch of disparate clips that got assembled together like clip art. You really did an EXCELLENT job of making all the elements work together.. it really does sound like it was all recorded live on the same stage at the same time.

The interpersonal dynamics between you and Janice are reminiscent of the Sonny and Cher stage dynamic... which I always thought was very charming and that it contributed greatly to their likeability

I also want to say that both of you sound like you're having a TON of fun with this! I want to watch this act play live!

Two ENTHUSIASTIC thumbs (plus all my toes) up!

Great collaboration. Now that we have PGMusic Radio, can PGMusic TV be far behind - Especially since we have PGSonny and PGCher!!
Loved this. Lots of energy.

Thank you Pat! Bud has tried to get me to "go rock" for some time grin and Rog gave me a great opportunity to attempt that with a very cool song. I'm so glad you think what I did worked. And yes it was a TON of fun!

ROG,

This is a joy to listen to! (buncha times)

Great mix. Drums sound good. Awesome job on the horns!!!

I would never think to combine horns and harmonica in the same song. Works well together... Sax + horns = excellent. Nice guitar touches...bass comes through nicely...

The chick singer is spectacular!!! smile Excellent vocals throughout. Y'all blend well.

(A small thing. The harmonica opening sounds "pieced together" - a "less than natural" stop between the first two pieces/uses. It sounds good after the rest of the music starts - really good - great - throughout the rest of the song)

And, one more time... this is a super mix!

This is a excellent collaboration, the timing, and draping in and out of the vocals was spot on.
Good lyrics, good beat, great arrangement.

Hi Pat.
Thanks for such a full and detailed review.

Yes, I did use quite a few RTs this time. I'm useless with any instrument which you have to blow, so the RTs are perfect. I tend to record everything right from the start in Realband and miss out BiaB altogether. I think Realband is the most underestimated program and is the hidden secret of the BiaB package. It's like having your own professional recording studio, but with a whole bunch of world-class session musicians waiting in the recreation room, just in case you need them.

As you know, I like to play a lot of the guitar and keyboard tracks, but having access to 100s of RTs for the rest is unbelievable. I don't usually bother with a style, because I can't always say what my style is - I just pick RTs from the list which suit what I'm doing.

And, of course, this track would simply not have worked without Janice showing that she can sing soul and rock with the best of them.

As you correctly guessed - this was SO much fun.

Cheers, ROG.

Hi Don.
Many thanks for the listen.
I love the harmonica RTs. It's an instrument which I always wanted to play, but I just can't get to grips with, so being able to use such a good realtrack is amazing.
Cheers, ROG.

It's a cool thing.
I do need to add that the reverb on the male vocal is a bit too heavy against the rest of the song - sounds like that singer is in another room. The female reverb is similarly heavy but suits a little better.
The male vocal - probably due to the reverb - sounds a little out of tune in the 1st verse.
Great work so far.

Cheers

Hi Floyd.
You would not believe the trouble I had with those harmonica phrases! After re-generating the track about fifty times, I found that phrase, but it had a bit of noise at the end. In a mix it wouldn't show, but exposed on the intro it was going to be a problem. I really wanted the intro to sound like it does, so I edited out the noise, but then the phrase ended too suddenly. I tried to EQ it out but that didn't work either. I finally opted for cutting and then applying reverb to extend it. I applied a general reverb on the channel insert, but also had to render some extra reverb on to the last half second of the phrase. Thought I'd got away with with it, but should have remembered your super-keen hearing!

Anyway, well spotted and thanks for all the nice things you said.

Cheers, ROG.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
