Hi,
I dont have BIAB.
I'm looking for some tool for generating simple tracks.
Looks the sound quality of BIAB is top notch,
but too many buttons, menus, and complex (for _me_).

Is there a way to use it like Digitech TRIO ?

I know there is "Chord Wizard for Audio".
Is it possible to play some chords using guitar,
and then get some styles, drums, bass line automatically,
and then tweak them later ?

I watched this video:
"Band in a Box Audio Chord Wizard Part 1"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p883EnueaPo

It requires that I first record the chords the audio file,
then import (about 4-5 menus and clicks) and then select style, not a "fast flow".
But its from 2013, maybe things have changed.

Thanks for your help,
Any ideas are much appreciated.
J.

John, I suppose you saw that the Trio and Trio+ use BIAB styles.

To use BIAB like these pedals all you have to do is type the chords into a song in the order that you want them to play. Pick a style which you can listen to first, save the file, and then play the song. Jamm for minutes, hours, days, or a year if you want.

And there are hundreds of Demo songs you can just load and jam with instantly.

Digitech Trio utilizes a (more or less) simple algorithm to figure out the chord structure of what you're playing. Then it adds an instrumental accompaniment of some sort. This instrumentals are powered by PGMusic's Band in a Box. In short: Digitech Trio is a very small scale BIAB.

The full program offers a lot more switches and knobs for you to play with. This makes it much more versatile and at the same time increases the degree of difficulty for the user.

Digitech Trio gives fast and easy success, BIAB gives you the (overall) better results, since you are in control.

Just like: If you buy a mashed potato mix you can make mashed potatoes, with a little tweak you even get duchesse potatoes and croquettes. But you will never get hash browns, french fries, or just a regular baked potato.

While you can use raw potatoes and prepare mashed potatoes this is never as fast and easy as using a mashed potato mix. But you are in control of the ingredients.

J just to clarify one thing. The pedal automatically senses your chords and chord changes, over a phrase, then lets you quickly select a style and jam. BIAB may have that capability as you referenced in the old video. BIAB is not as easy as just play a chord progression pick a style and start playing along with yourself. You have to put the chord progression into the BIAB program. Easy to learn how to do.

But, Trio has a limit to the styles, many fewer than even the basic package of BIAB. It has a limit to the length of the progression you can record. And you only get 2 instruments in Trio Bass and Drums. The number of instruments in BIAB that you can play all at once is 7, and also record an Audio Track. In addition to that Trio cannot easily save, edit, orchestrate unlimited compositions that you create for future use.

You can make unlimited .mp3s of your song Ideas in BIAB/RealBand (PC Version) and email them to your musician friends, put them on your iPod or other media player, phone, tablet.

PG has a 30 day money back guarantee and so you can try BIAB out if its not what you want then you just let PG know it and they will give you your money back.

GHinCH is correct if you want to COOK use the TRIO, if you want to become a CHEF get BIAB.

Hi,

Yes, I was aware that the Trio and Trio+ use BIAB styles.

Thanks a lot for your detailed answers.
I need to do some "thinking" and decide if to try it.

Thanks again.

In case you think about bying the Trio or Trio+, I would't do it and rather invest the mony for BandInABox.

I have a Trio but got bored after a while because of it's limitated sound and don't use it anymore. When I bought it, I thougt also I could easier and faster use it for exercicing. But I did not order the external switch-pedal and without it, you end up doing a lot of physical exersize when you need to press Buttons to Change the part's.

As far as i know you also can not save parts from the trio to an external device. That means you have to record every time from scratch.

BB gives you so much more variations of styles that also sound different and to type a few chords and select a style doesn't take much longer than playing a part into the trio, especially when you have to record more than one, just because you made a mistake.

On the Internet you can find a lot of BB-Files to easely load witout having to type the Chords by yourself.

Found this forum post while doing some online research to confirm PG Music's connection with the new Digitech Trio+ or 'plus'.

Having been a loyal BnB customer since the early 2000's (last updated around 2013), I'd like to pass on some early findings.

Now spending several hours doodling around with the Trio+ (Father's day gift), I simply must give it a big thumbs up!

It gets some serious creative juices flowing and the embedded software is solid. It's like have a couple of band mates that get it on the first run and never complain about how many times you'd like to do over a particular part.

I'm using along side my TC-Helicon Harmony G-XT for a solid solo setup!

I'm planning to create some videos focusing on it as a creative and small venue solo solution.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
