I have an mp3 with a click and I want to add Real drums to it. I opened the mp3, but I can't get the drums play on top of it. Searching online was no help either.

Nick,

Did you use BIAB? Once you load an audio into BIAB, the styles are disabled so that they don't interfere with audio playback. Seeing you want Realdrums, you will need to re-enable the style.

As shown on the image (version 2015) below, when a style is disabled, there is a cross beside the style's name. If you click on this window, you should get the option to enable the style.

To add drums, it will be easier in Realband rather than BIAB.

Regards,
Noel

Thank you, that worked, but I don't think it will be easy to match the drums to the mp3 click. I've used BIAB, but not for anything like this.

I'll check out Realband if you say it would be easier to add drums.

In BIAB you need to open the mp3 audio file (or other supported type of audio file) from the OPEN SPECIAL menu. Select Open Audio with Chords.

This opens the Audio Chord Wizard. The Audio Chord Wizard analyzes the MP3, determines the key signature of the track, determines the chords and creates a tempo map which synchronizes the MP3 audio to BIAB generated styles, RealTracks, Midi and Realdrums.

In Realband, you can either use the ACW or create a click track.

Got it. I opened it the way you said, it did create a chord chart, I sent it to BIAB... and that was it. Drums are still out of sync. I don't know... maybe it's easier to do the whole thing again from scratch....

Nick,

To create the tempo map in BIAB, you need to use F8 to identify beat 1 in each bar. To do that...

1. Open the audio using the Audio Chord Wizard.

2. Set beat 1, bar 1.

3. Start the song playing.

4. Press F8 every time beat 1 occurs in a bar. You'll need to do this for the first few bars and then every second or third bar as the song continues.

5. When finished, send the file back to BIAB and retain the tempo map.

If you have a lookin Help under "Audio Chord Wizard", you'll find a clear outline of what to do.

Also, if you go to the below webpage, you'll find a video on the Audio Chord Wizard. It's in the 'Advanced' section.

A number of people on the forums have very successfully used a tempo map to match BIAB tracks to an existing audio file.

Regards,
Noel

Good tips from Noel. Also, you have to set the first downbeat using the F6 key. And since your song was recorded to a click, you will most likely find you only have to use the F8 key a few bars before the ACW syncs with the song.

Thanks a lot, the instructions and the video did it. I didn't have to set the downbeat since the click was very prominent and BIAB picked it up easily. Very cool stuff!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
