A while back I saw someone close, slowly come back from the brink, and found Sanctuary. So I sat down and wrote this song. It was early days with BIAB so a bit of a struggle, but it’s what I felt I needed to articulate and maybe there was a little “guidance” there.

518 Bass 365 guitar acoustic f/pick drums Nashville even 8^6 Hi Hat 362 Guitar acoustic Strumm
363 Pedal Steel background 1408 Piano synthlayer rhythm sung in C at 107 Bps

Sometimes one feels the roads to long the hills to steep
The nights are so dark and there’s no peace to find in sleep

My beautiful world turned so sad for me
Seemed all those I loved had left and gone away

But you never turned your face from me // you never turned your face from me
The words they are true // through his pain and etched in stone

Keep your faith know that I love you // walk by my side// and you will never walk alone
I’ll never turn my face from you // I’ll never turn my face from you

There’s a place for you to come to me // sanctuary // sanctuary
Bring all your sorrow // bring all your heartache // all your pain lay before me

I gave you my promise // here in my house // in my arms find sanctuary // sanctuary //sanctuary

Paddy,

I really like the lyrics, the rhythmic punctuation, the melody and the delivery on this. The melodic ebb and flow is great, there are some great rises and falls in here, true music. The delivery is completely genuine and the production is finely tuned, It sounds as good on a smart phone as it does on speakers. Great job mate.

Hi Paddy,

It's a great song title you've found. It really lends itself well to following a number of pathways. I like the confidence in your writing, your arrangement and your performance. Like others before me, "uplifting" was a word that also sprang to mind as I listened.

All the best,
Noel

Thank you David, your comments ‘especially on this song, are very constructive for me. One is always a bit apprehensive to script a song of this nature but if something is “inside” a songwriter then it must out.
Something I know you understand only too well

Thanks Noel ,

My thinking also, that if I ever upgraded this song, I would use a few choir singers within it. Thanks for observations, you are a astute musician.

hi Paddy,

I read thru the comments before listening, and I was intrigued by all of the references to the chord progression. Now that I've listened, I have to agree that it is very innovative the way you used lots of transitional chords in places where you could probably have gotten away with playing the same chord the whole time (but that would be boring) Isn't it PURE FUN experimenting with chords and melodies and lyrics?

Listening thru the lyrics, it wasn't perfectly obvious whether you were talking about a human relationship or a spiritual relationship... but based on some other things you've said I'm going with the interpretation that the story is being sung from the perspective of deity, with mankind as the recipient of the message.

If that assumption is correct, then it is indeed a very inspirational song, and I'd love to hear the full story about the person you saw come back from the brink.

Paddy, based on the songs you write and the way you express your thoughts when commenting on other peoples' songs, I have to believe you are a special kind of guy... the kind I tend to like and respect. Plus, you write cool songs. ;-)

Meditative and beautiful!! This is just sweet listening. I'm surprised nobody before Leo made a Pink Floyd reference-that struck me immediately. I'm loving what you're doing. Looking forward to the next one! Take care. Greg

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
