Hi, here is my latest instalment. I hope you enjoy it. Lots of Realtracks samples here.

[Link no longer valid]

BIAB:
RealTracks in style: ~592:Bass, Acoustic Bluegrass Doc Ev 100
RealTracks in style: ~593:Fiddle, Rhythm Bluegrass Doc Ev 100
RealTracks in song: ~598:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Bluegrass Doc Ev 100
RealTracks in song: ~~589:Banjo, Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 (Rhythm)
RealTracks in song: ~591:Banjo, Bluegrass Doc Ev 100 (Soloist)
RealDrums: RealDrums in Song: CountryTrainBrushes: a: Brushes b: CountryTrainBrushes CountryTrainBrushes

Logic Pro X:
Vox. Custom tweaks, including a smidge of distortion.
I treat all Realtracks in Logic, tho not a whole lot. Here I generally added spice to give the bluegrass sounds more edge and hopefully a more contemporary sound.

Lyrics:
Rocks on the mountain
Rocks in my head
On a hiding to nothing
Like the preacher man said
But Angel beside me
Her hands upon the wheel
Angel beside me
Her hands upon the wheel
You don’t know what you’re driving
You don’t know what I feel

Signs in the desert
Signs in the clouds
Gone for all money
But I’m back again now
I’m a fool for your lovin
I’m a-giggling and crying
I’m a fool for your lovin
I’m a-giggling and crying
I’m a cuckoo for my Angel
And you know I aint lying

Lickety splittly
Lickity Sam
Man in the mirror
Is that who I am
I’m driving to Heaven
Angel by my side
I’m driving to Heaven
Angel by my side
Got a ticket to run
Got a ticket to ride

(Rpt 1st verse)

Matcham, great lively tune.

I was a little bit concerned with the start, it seemed that there is a fraction of a beat missing.

The solo slotted in perfectly

The shots on the ending gave it some nice unexpected anticipation.

Thanks VideoTrack. Think I know what you mean. I may have faded out the banjo solo too quickly before the vocal comes in - it was actually difficult finding an out point. I'll work on it.

Just played the Soundcloud version. You actually mean right at the start. Might need to re-bounce the track in Logic and upload again. By the time anyone reads this hopefully I'll have it sorted.

yes, it was the very start of the audio, the 0.0 second mark, as though there was a cut.

Enjoyed it...would have liked to have heard a solo fiddle RT for the solo sections and the rhythm fiddle used every where except for the solo...as you did with the banjo. I like the shots on the outro.

But....30+ years in a hardcore bluegrass band made me a bit opinionated smile so take it with the proverbial grain of salt!

Fun listen

Bud

Hey Bud yeah I would have preferred a different fiddle solo too. I'm new to BIAB remember. Next year I hope to have more Realtracks to choose from.

Fun tune Matcham!! Has a very live, organic, spontaneous feel to it. Your vocal is very natural. It all works well! Take care. Greg

Howdy, you likely have set 33 and there should be three fiddle RT's in it. The fiddle shuffle rhythm that you used and a fiddle chop rhythm RT and a fiddle solo RT. All three are by Andy Leftwich who is an outstanding award winning musician. The fiddle chop is great when you just want a little extra upbeat. It goes well with the mandolin rhythm. Actually the two of them and the bass fiddle can pretty much replace drums for many projects. The shuffle rhythm works very well with a, well, shuffle feel smile and that's what you have going with your tune. The solo RT may or may not work well with it. It might take quite a few regenerations and some cut and pasting to get it right.

Before we drifted off into Americana and blues we did quite a few bluegrass BiaB projects as that was our background for decades. If you have any questions that I might could help with regarding bluegrass realtracks please PM me. It's cool to see some bluegrass happening here!

Cheers,

Bud

You say you are a newbie and if this is what you are producing now I look forward to your songs once you have got to grips with this wonderful programme.
Great ending!

I agree with Greg also. This was a toe tapping, good time song right from the git-go.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I had the wrong pitch correction settings on the vocal and the deliberate blues notes went to the wrong place. It's a little pitchier than normal. Sorry.

Bud thanks for your suggestions. I just took a look at my fiddle options and I don't seem to have the solo you mentioned although you are right in that Andy Leftwich is the player here. I'm playing with a limited palette basically and I know it's a limitation. But not for long. I'm loving the Realtracks colours and the direction they are taking me in songwriting.

Matcham, I think the bluegrass real tracks are among the best the program has to offer. The are on full display here. Nicely sung. I agree with Bud about the use of the background fiddle. You're off to a terrific start. I will be watching for further posts. Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
