My ISP went down Thursday during a severe thunderstorm. When it came back online, my Firefox browser wouldn't start.

I've been struggling with FF Support for 2 days and it's still not fixed. I'm running Opera temporarily. I had FF tweaked to perfection so I want that back. Meanwhile, all of my login credentials have been zapped.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

More details:

When I click the Firefox launch icon on my desktop, it merely creates an impotent icon in the lower taskbar labeled "Yahoo Search". I find nothing except a red "X" in the upper right corner of the new window.

I have Windows 7/64 and the current version of FF.

Other browsers work fine although I've lost my credentials.

Have you re-installed?
That should keep the settings, if they haven't been lost already.

*May* want to create a restore point beforehand, but a bad restore point can be worse than none.

Agreed. Reinstall. When you hit mozilla.com, it should detect your FF and offer to refresh it. Click that.

I tried reinstall , no joy!

Firefox has a repair utility at mozilla.com but it requires having FF running. Ketch 22!

I completely removed all traces of FF in the registry the ran CC to search remnants before reinstalling a brand new version from mozilla. Original problem persists. Clicking the launch button just creates another impotent icon in the taskbar. Firefox Support was baffled.

I've tried everything to no avail. Very frustrated.

Rharv,

Your mailbox is full.

What would you charge to "remote" my computer and get Firefox working again?

Please PM me.

Thanks,

Don

Is it possible a copy of Firefox is already running (badly)? Check the Task Manager.

Don
I freed up some PM space, but I am booked up for most of the day.
This may be of interest though, my first suspicion:
https://www.pcrisk.com/removal-guides/8835-search-yahoo-com-redirect

Check your Programs and Features in Control Panel and see if anything Yahoo exists.

Have you ran Malwarebytes ?

Dear friend,

I finally got it sorted.

In safe mode, I discovered that Firefox was opening a wrong start (home) page (Yahoo Search). I eventually realized the problem (read 2 days of sheer frustration) and changed the target to firefox.exe and I'm back in bidness!

In 20/20 hindsight, each of the impotent icons being created in the taskbar were labeled "Yahoo Search", Duh!

It's very easy to miss a checkbox and add one of those redirect toolbars when downloading software.

Exactly what I thought.
I'd still check Programs and Features and remove anything 'search' or 'Yahoo' that you didn't intentionally install, so it doesn't come back.

Glad you're back in business; browser hacks are a pretty common issue.
Maybe with Java going away they will get a little more complicated to pull off.

If you run Java, make sure it is the latest/greatest. I choose to not use it now, since it is being deprecated soon. Chrome already stopped supporting it, FF will within 6 weeks .. along with Safari .. IE will be the last, as usual.

I expect an influx of work soon to rebuild websites relying on Java as more and more users experience errors ..

If you want to have a backup of your FF settings-logins-favorites, just make a copy of the folder in C:\Users\Don\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
If you loose it, have a crash or want it on another pc just copy the contents of the folder to the default folder removing the existing files first.

In Explorer go to Organize - Layout - Menu bar
Tools - Folder Options - View - Show hidden files, folders...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
