Greg Johnson sent me this idea a while back. I added a verse and tweaked some things.
It took a while for this to come together. It never felt right to me until I heard this Xtra style.
This will be our entry in the contest. Thanks to all that listen and comment.

Caribbean Moon

I've paid my bills, packed my things
Tied up a couple of loose ends that more than a few years of living brings
Where I’ve found the strength Well I don’t know
I met an island girl in St Maarten about a year ago

In the mornin', I'll be headin' out
Down to see my special one
We'll walk along the beach without a cloud
In the midday sun
I feel just like a kid on Christmas Eve
I'll be holdin' her so soon
Warm embraces and a midnight kiss
Beneath the Caribbean moon

Long cold nights i’ve seen better days
gonna put this all behind me spend some time down south catching rays
Have a drink or two soaking up the sun
on island time I'll be half baked before the day is done

In the mornin', I'll be headin' out
Down to see my special one
We'll walk along the beach without a cloud
In the midday sun
I feel just like a kid on Christmas Eve
I'll be holdin' her so soon
Warm embraces and a midnight kiss
Beneath the Caribbean moon

So laid back no need to rush let's have another beer
Sit and breathe as waves roll in and wash away the wasted years

In the mornin', I'll be headin' out
Down to see my special one
We'll walk along the beach without a cloud
In the midday sun
I feel just like a kid on Christmas Eve
I'll be holdin' her so soon
Warm embraces and a midnight kiss
Beneath the Caribbean moon

There have been some great songs posted recently. This is another one. Liked everything about it,(the performance, (the Jimmy Buffett feel), the lyric, the melody and the backing was absolutely spot on.

Superb & clever guys!

Tom and Greg,

This is a fantastic listen! I love everything about it. The mix and its clarity are brilliant (that's always Tom's forte), the lyrics are incredibly well crafted, Tom's performance is a perfect fit and the melody & arrangement are spot-on.

The back half of the chorus really appealed to me....

It resonated with so much imagery, enthusiasm and eagreness and it really pulled me into the song; as I listened, it was like I was there smile

A stunning music creation from every perspective!

Noel

Tom & Greg,

A great calypso sound that fits your song perfectly.

So laid back no need to rush let's have another beer
Sit and breathe as waves roll in and wash away the wasted years

now that`s a fine idea!

This brought me back to my Caribbean cruise.

This sounds so much like a Jimmy Buffet song.

Loved everything about this one.

This is a keeper.

Peter, We appreciate the kind words. Greg wrote a great melody and the fact that I just returned from the Keys ( Buffett country ) must have rubbed off on me. Tom

This song is awesome! It makes me want to go on a laid-back beach vacation RIGHT NOW!

Love the feeling this gives me:
I've paid my bills, packed my things
Tied up a couple of loose ends that more than a few years of living brings

Great job!

Tom and Greg,

Absolutely wonderful lyrics, such imagery

Quote:
I'll be half baked before the day is done
Half baked by the sun and the alcohol grin

good vocals Tom adding to an otherwise faultless song

excellent

How could you go wrong with that combination???

Greg & Tom. Sand & Sun. Tex & Calypso.

Excellent write, guys - start to finish.

"that more than a few years of living brings" - nice.

The whole write is Strong! Two strong verses, a strong chorus, an excellent bridge. It is easy to "wander off into cliché" in this type of song. Ya'll never even came close to doing that...

Excellent production and mix. The Calypso drums were a perfect addition.

A great listen.

Great tune you two. As mentioned and I'm sure as anticipated there are Buffet vibes here...but they are stamped with a Tom vocal and production and a Greg/Tom write- and those are good things.

The write seems so unpretentious -- just a loose genuine good time feel. There doesn't seem to be a lot of that any more...perhaps with Robert Earl Keen and a few others.

Another cool collab and a strong entry into the contest!

We enjoyed it.

I think I commented over in the xtra contest area and forgot to comment here. (something like Buffet-Smuffet) this may be better
than old Jimmie boy.
Seriously this is an air tight mix, production top notch really
good song. Enjoyed it.

Thanks for all the kind words! This song came to me when I was in my car. I was parking and heard some ad (annuity, or life insurance) with an acoustic guitar. As soon as the last chord faded, I heard the beginning of the chorus melody (In the morning I'll be heading out). When the melody popped into my head, Tommyad was singing it! I've been a huge fan of his since I started hanging around the forum. I put a verse, chorus, and a bridge melody idea (I think he came up with a better one), and sent him and MP3. He kindly agreed to take the handoff and run it in for a touchdown! It was a pleasure to collaborate. This forum is such a rich source of talent and creativity, as well as just plain great people. Take care. Greg
