Is there a way to open styles that are midi based outside of style editor?
More to the point, to open a guitar instrument(strumming) and change the strum pattern from down, down down to down up down or duration as a midi editor can. I'm using Realguitar ver4 VSTI to work out strum patterns and how they play in BIAB
Thanks Wyndham

You can open and listen to Styles using the StylePicker. You can select MIDI only styles using the filters. About the strum pattern? I can't answer.

Thanks, yes that's true but I want to edit the midi tracks like a midi editor does but I wonder if it too embedded to do too much if anything.

Yes you can with a MIDI editor or piano roll. First make sure that the notes are within the guitar's range and are able to be played on a guitar.

For a down stroke have the lowest note in the chord start first, the next note a couple of ticks later the third a couple of ticks later than the second note and so forth. Visa-versa for an up stroke as the highest note must be struck first.

It is the same as an arpeggio except the spacing between the notes is much shorter.

Some guitar VSTis may offer up and down strokes and that may be a faster and easier way to go. A MIDI guitar controller works out well also.

If you need more help just yell.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Mario, I misspoke a bit as I reread my own post. I was looking for a way to edit the style instead of the output midi file. I was hoping that within the style could be a modified type of midi cc commands that could be editable, which I'm starting to think is not possible.
Thanks Wyndham

Wyndham,

The midi styles are fully editable.

With guitar strums, though, it might be best to create new styles or to modify existing styles by importing a previously made and saved midi file. Musiclabs Realguitars is excellent and if it's possible to save a strum pattern as a midi file, from my limited knowledge, I believe that this could be imported into Stylemaker.

In BIAB, options for editing and creating styles is found under "File | Stylemaker"

Also, if you go to the below link...

http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

...In the 'Advanced' section, there's a 37 minute video on using Stylemaker. It's well worth watching.

Regards,
Noel

Great I see where I can get the info for a style but I have a question.
On Wanderer.sty with all except the guitar track muted I hear an up/down pattern something like up,d,..u/d,u/d/u but when I go to style editor on guitar track and look and play each pattern box, none sound like the strum pattern.
I noticed that in each of the 2 bar segments on the bass clef were 2 notes under each bar c4 g3.
Is this the trigger noes for strumming up and down when played on the chord window. If it is not, what & where is the trigger for strumming.
I know ths might be a bit into the weeds but this would give me a pattern o use in Realguitar from a user style.
Thanks Wyndham

yea cool it is,and cheaper than other parts of NI instruments. I also like 8ido resonator but it takes a full NI pkg.
Real guitar ver 4 sounds good and the upgrade was only 49$. Just need time to learn BIAB styles to write a style I need.

Wyndham,

If you generate a chord progression for WANDERER.STY and then use the Piano Roll view to look at what's happening, it's possible to see how the notes of the chord are offset. This is in keeping with MarioD's comments above.

I've added two vertical lines in green to the image below. For vertical line #1, it can be seen the the notes are played from the lowest to the highest, very quickly one after the other. That is, a down strum.

For vertical line #2, though, the notes are played successively from highest to lowest and so is an up strum.

Since the notes in the strum are offset by only a tiny amount, when looking at this G7 chord in bar 26, the notation does not show this variation.

In Stylemaker, under the Misc. option, there there's a screen that has a button called "Guitar Macros" (see below). It would seem that these macros are how strumming might be controlled. Unfortunately, I do not know enough about Stylemaker to help with this.

The best I can suggest is that you click on the "Help" button and have a read. Then have a play around. Sooner or later, understanding will follow.

Regards,
Noel

The style editor is a whole new ball game. It looks very powerful. I made a few changes to try to eliminate midi patches coming in automatically, but nothing changed in songs based on those styles. I guess it's early days! :-)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
