Hi receder, this works for me also. The vocoder works also. But on top of that I love the melody in this little song. I would love to hear you at some point come back and expand on this with another verse/chorus. Thanks Torrey

Thanks for your comments Torrey. You know, I had another look at the song yesterday and there is an obvious missing verse between verse 2 and the bridge which I have now written. I also had an idea about an outro synth part. So, watch this space for version 2 of TSOTT!

Cheers

receder - Great work on this song! I also really enjoyed the Vocoder sound you chose. The time you spent auditioning the presets was time well spent smile

Very, very cool Rec!! This definitely has the retro feel of a time when bands used their imaginations to come up with interesting music. I thought the vocal fx were perfect. Wish the song was longer! Great job!! Take care. Greg

Thanks very much Greg. Really appreciate your comments.

I nearly have a new version completed which runs to just over 3 minutes. Just working on the ending. Should be posted tomorrow.

Thanks again,
Rec

Rec,

I love that title. There's a really old huge Oak by my house and you wonder at all the changes that giant old tree has lived through.

Very creative writing and production that sounds great.
Also interesting reading how you put it all together.

Much enjoyed. Well done.

Hi Josie,

Thank you for listening to my song and for your kind words.

I have now finished the new longer version which is still on the same link as the original.

Rec,

I love this. Sounds like music from the future. Very tight writing carried along on an interesting melody. Enjoyed it.

BTW - is your avatar a Dickens character?

Bob

Thanks a lot Bob. I appreciate your comments coming as they do from a master of songwriting.

My avatar is the Mad Hatter (the previous one was the Caterpillar). These are photos I took at a park in Ripon (N Yorks, UK) of a tree sculpture depicting characters from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Carroll spent time as choirboy at Ripon Cathedral and is said to have been inspired to create the characters by the cathedral's animal carvings. The sculptures were carved using the trunks of a cypress tree.

All the best,
Rec

I'm about 25 miles from York and I visit there quite a bit. York Minster is an amazing place although I haven't been there in a while. I do recall seeing posts by ROG. I'll have to look him up.

Cheers

I thought it looked familiar! Very impressive artwork! It must of taken them a while to carve them out with the style they portray. Do you have photos' of the other ones?

Hi Joe,

Yes here's a photo I took of the whole thing...

It includes the Cheshire Cat, Alice, White Rabbit, Caterpillar, Mad Hatter and I think it might be the Dormouse.

Cheers

Rec,

Interesting! I enjoyed that blast back into an 80's vibe.

And a good read about the effects of Coursera and Pat Pattison.

I am enjoying your music Rec, glad you are back posting!!!

Very nice and it's not every day you hear the words "soliloquies" and "paradigms" in one song!

As I respond I'm looking out a window at a 150+ year old hardwood forest. Janice and I walk or mountain bike through our forest everyday so your song is even more special for us.

The vocoder works well for us and we are struck at how much work must have gone into this production. We have much enjoyed our listens and thanks for including the back story.

Superb!

J&B

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
