Pass Me Not O' Gentle Saviour 1.Band in Box Slow Country Swing (100 Cmaj 4/4) 2.Replace drum track with Nashville Brushes 3.Render individual tracks and import to Sony Acid Studio 4.Extensive use of erase tool to eliminate 4 kick and some guitar and some strings parts. Probably #4 was the innovation or learning part for me. This resulted from a comment on the forum to use the DAW for dynamic improvements. Left to themselves, the members of the band each play non stop solos. Individual volume adjustments are tedious.

We just sang this song in church yesterday (I'm the choir and music director), so was cool to see it posted here.
Thanks!

Liked you web site a lot., John. Thanks, John. Yes, timeless hymn from the late 1800's. Fanny Crosby wrote something like, what, 3,000 hymns? Working on laying in guitar and voice track, today. Thx, again. (ed)

Nicely put together, Ed. A good mix, a nice backing track.
Good job of "paring down" the drum track for this application.

Thanks Floyd, for the listen and comment. That drum work resulted from a suggestion made by Greg that added dynamics and sophistication to the drum track. The Nashville brushes seems to fit the style. I used the eraser in SONY Acid, just going along listening to the track and zapping every wave form that drew attention to itself. Didn't take long. Opens up a new vista. (ed)

Nice and mellow production. There is a treasure trove in the PD, indeed.
Enjoyed it!

Hi Ed,
You have discovered another great PD song and created a soothing instrumental version.
It will be good to hear your updated version with vocals.
All the best, Rec

Thanks, Scott, J&B, and Rec. Those kind words encourage. Yes, the PD is a treasure trove. I'm not promoting web sites, but when I found the nice folks at pdinfo dot com I was able to order for a couple of dollars original reprints of the sheet music pre 1920. In case of question, it helps to have "the sheet music that was worked from" on hand. That said, some of my favorite artists who made extensive use of PD have been Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and The Grateful Dead. What do they have in common? Each will take an old song and work with it until it sounds new. Obviously, talents of Willie and Jerry are rare, but I am thinking of a song like "Casy Jones" or "Roll Away the Dew," the same but different. Come to think about it, the great era of Blues is coming on to the PD. So many tunes, so little time. Thx again. (ed)
