Did you read the article I linked about Win 10 security?

A couple of points. First, DoD is upgrading millions of computers right now to Win 10. How many times have they been hacked? And those are only the ones we hear about on the news.

Another one I found really interesting is Win 10 does something with video scaling over HDMI that is much better than how 7 does it. If you're followed my thread about my home theater setup, that caught my attention because I've commented on how great my new TV looks using it as a computer monitor over HDMI. Another thing is 10 allows for a wireless display which I'm probably going to get. $50 for a USB thingy that connects a TV to a Win 10 PC wirelessly. Pretty cool.

I can't quote every little thing about Win 10 but just mho, I think it's a big deal.

Bob

Graham, I just skimmed that article about Panda and I can see what happened. That sucks because you really got blindsided. There's tons of other articles saying there's no problem with Panda.

This might be good news from that article:

Quote:
UPDATE: They have released a tool ps-recovery.exe and instructions to help fix the problem.

I'm not getting on you in any way Graham, I totally understand articles like this can be hard to find sometimes. Note this is from last March. I've found over the years when I'm trying to research something using Google to look at several pages of hits just in case what I need is way down the list.

Good luck,

Bob

I've scoured what I could in the last 10 days Bob and come up blank. I'm not the only one by any means with the same issues. What the hardest part is for me is NOT being able to roll back, repair, uninstall, or recover.

Man, what a mess. I just found this:

https://www.netsolinc.com/massive-windows-issues/

It's detailed instructions on what to do. Your scenario is all the way to the bottom section and just reading these instructions is not easy and I can just imagine having to actually do all this. It may be time to take it to a shop if you're not up to trying this yourself. Oth, what have you got to lose at this point? Maybe try it, if it doesn't work you can still take it to someone.

You may need to reinstall Windows, does your PC have a recovery disc? Contact whoever you bought it from, maybe they can help.

Graham,

Windows 10 is still free to we physically challenged folks directly from M$. The download took several hours on my slow connection but if you can use the ISO Image, I'll email or PM the link. It's a full install and doesn't require a Product Key.

Plan on spending a whole day installing Win 10 plus getting everything back in order.

I've started to get a handle on it after nearly a week of hair-pulling.

Don

You know you have my sympathies Graham and I've tried to help by linking to what I've found.

Having said that, this is NOT Microsoft's fault or problem. They can't be responsible for 3rd party anti virus software when they provide their own for you to use. It's called Windows Defender and it's included with Win 10. I'm not saying it's the best (it isn't) but it's there.

This issue is Panda all the way and that's where you need to direct your attention. Not that it will do much good though. I'm sure that the EULA you agreed to like we all do (who reads all that, ever?) says somewhere on page 26 in very fine print that you use Panda at your own risk, if it kills your computer don't call us, blah blah.

All you can do is fix it and move on. I seriously doubt anybody's going to pay for it.

Bob

If you get Windows to boot, you might want to try this:

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
