++ Realitone ++ makes some interesting virtual instruments. Their newest is a virtual finger picking Takamine acoustic guitar player. Also have virtual female singers, virtual whistler, virtual banjo player and drummer.

MarioD, how do you like their banjo? I have considered it several times and never pulled the trigger. Mainly because the banjo RealTracks have always sufficed quite nicely for my use.
It looks good, it would follow the BB Chord Output track and you can add the pattern change key switches on another track. I wonder if you can create your own patterns for it, maybe you can edit the script ? With the Kontakt Akkord Guitar that comes with the Kontakt Factory Library you can, it also follows BB Chord Output. That's how I like to work these days rather than manually entering all the notes. That's why I got RapidComposerLE & RealGuitar they both follow any chords on the BB Chord Output track from your Biab song, both can send midi to any virtual instrument, both you can make up any patterns you like, RC you can make Chord/Scale patterns with associated key swithces and RG just chord patterns. Yes, drag n drop patterns and something that follows your chord track is the way to go.

The banjo program is really good. You can play individual notes or chords with it. It has 6 picking patterns that you can change on the fly. It sounds pretty realistic also.
The only thing that bothers me is when you finger your chords on your MIDI controller you must do it prior to the beat. The chord change will happen on the next beat.
The really nice thing is that it will play a select number of chords in any inversion. You can also tell it on what fret to play the chords. This is only true for the finger picking section, you can play any chord in the note section, i.e. that is not automatic finger picking.
Does it sound as good as RTs, no, but the advantage is that you can tell it what to play when thus I find it more versatile then RTs. YMMV. Note that I do use RTs also, I use the tool that is best for the job.

If there is any one synth that is a MUST HAVE synth, it is Kontakt. There are so many third party vendors writing software and programming samples for it.
The quality is generally all really good.... some obviously better than others. And they range in price from really affordable to ones that are priced out of the reach of many hobbyists.
I picked up an acoustic strumming/finger-picking guitar and some mountain dulcimers for a couple of ten spots some number of years back. They sound convincing.

That original guitar link looks very cool, I've never heard of that company before. Neat idea to include a pattern player, because they're right -- I'd have no idea what type of patterns a banjo player played (and I'd wager most other computer musicians are the same!).

A real picker can spot the midi a mile away. However, for non players, it's the only option many times. And in that case.... it's better than nothing.

I will add this even though I do not own this software. As indicated you can drag the pattern to your DAW thus you should also be able to very slightly randomize the pattern so it can sound more organic.

Yes I agree, John has RapidComposer he can drag all of the patterns out into RapidComposer convert them all to Relative form and save them as phrases in RapidComposer user custom phrases library, modify them to create more patterns/phrases. If you get the banjo it will give you more patterns as well. This way you can drag the phrase from the library into the RapidComposer track over any chords, even the ones Realitone don't support and add a Humanize or other variation to them. I set the Phrase Transpose to Octave, this way you can move them to fit to the VSTi/Kontakt key range. Just set the RapidComposer track to a VSTi or Kontakt/Realitone then save as wav. It won't be "cheesy MIDI"
