OK....I'll try to be clear.
I got a new m/board/Mem/CPU for the DAW. (Windows 7.0)
I' confident all hookups are correct: power cables/SATA drive C:/CPU/fan, etc.
I can get to CMOS, see the C: drive and it's the correct boot up drive in CMOS
I get the prompt "Windows was unable to start" Did the repair option (recommended) and no luck after several attempts.
It occurred to me: 1) Is it possible that Windows won't start because some some authorization issue and that my Window 7.0 doesn't accept the new m/b? Do I need to put in my Win 7.0 CD to allow some reauthorization on a new m/b?
2) Is it possible that one has to clear the BIOS with that little jumper on the m/b.
I've been through some real time consuming frustration with this upgrade and my neurons are fried. So, if any of you read this novel and can offer some G2 I'll thank all in advance.
Hope that makes sense.....later....I need a drink.

I believe it's not any of the choices you gave. Windows will probably object to changing that much of your hardware, but you will be in Windows when it does so and asks for you to get authorization from Microsoft. I've done that a few times, and it's a fairly quick phone call.
A few thoughts in no particular order:
I don't think the BIOS settings would do that if your new hardware is the right type (for example, not using a PCI card when the new motherboard wants PCIe, or a CPU of the wrong socket type), but I agree, that would be something to try: clear the BIOS. Problem is, the new motherboard is the source of the new BIOS settings and should allow you access to the new hardware.
Does it beep when booting? Does the motherboard have a 2-character alphanumeric code it displays? Knowing the motherboard maker and the codes can help a lot. For example, three beeps usually means to check memory etc. On mine, A0 is the correct boot code displayed.
Is it possible you did not connect the second power supply cable to the motherboard? Common mistake.
Is it possible you have too much power draw for your old power supply? To test that, unplug all disk drives, DVD drives etc. except your boot drive.
Could one or more of the new components be defective? Do you have other parts to switch in one at a time for diagnosis?

Hey Matt....
My buddy (bass player) get the new system H/Ware for me and it came in this morning. It's new power supply too....Antec 600 watts. New memory and CPU verified compatible with m/b.
He also sent me a newly purchased (1) Terrabyte HD f Win 7.0 Professional (CD included) and it WILL boot to that drive which is the one he used to set everything up prior to sending the system to me.
But...I have all my music stuff on my original DAW C: drive so that's the one I want to use and my clone the (1) terrabyte at a later time.
I'm not hearing any beeps so I'll have to check that out.
Hmmm...."second power supply cable"?
Damn kind of you to chime in.....thank you.

OK, that's more clear. Are both of the drives SATA?
The "second power supply cable" is square - four holes - and it comes out of the power supply and mounts in a different place on some motherboards from the long connector. Depends on the brand...

Yes... That power cord from the power suppler even says 'CPU' on the connector and IS plugged into the m/b properly. Both drives are SATA. As with yourself and many here, I've built many of my own computers for years but the last one WAS my DAW and it was 10 years ago....obviously I'm out of the current knowledge loop with these painful h/w upgrading protocols. I really am leaning to the issue of re-authorization being necessary for this m/b change. Many thanks for even reading my plea...

Good on the power supply.
I guess I'm not clear on exactly how far you are getting. The 'Windows not authorized' message only comes up after Windows is running, and it continues to nag you and blocks installation of other software until you handle it by calling Microsoft. What I think you are describing is nowhere near that far along. Could you be very specific about what the computer does do, and where you are stuck?

The 'Windows not authorized' message only comes up after Windows is running,Could you be very specific about what the computer does do, and where you are stuck? Hey Matt... After I hit DEL to enter CMOS and make sure the drives are recognized I hit 'save and exit'. The Windows splash screen does come up briefly then goes to a prompt stating "Windows was unable to start". Then gives me the option to 'repair' or 'start windows normally'. The 'repair' find snothing specific but at the very end of the 'details' option the dialogue says the problem is likely due to hardware changes....but, nothing more defined than that and does not tell me anything about 're-authorization' itself. I never get to Windows actually opening. Sorry if I didn't communicate as clearly as I had hoped....I'm daft sometimes.

Will Windows start in Safe Mode? Hmmm.... During one of my efforts I stuck in the Win7.0 CD to try and reinstall WITHOUT reformatting completely....wouldn't let me. It was only during that process that 'safe mode' came up as a choice on the command prompt screen. I'll hit it again tomorrow. You're a good man for offering assistance.....I owe you good beer. UPDATE:Just got to 'safe mode' via F8 during boot up. Takes me back the very same screen choices being 'repair (recommended)' or 'start Windows normally'. Neither choice has been successful....just the same merry-go-round of prompts. Thanks....

Just to be clear, did you clean re-install Windows to this machine or did you just use the previous hard drive (or a clone or image of it)? If the latter, then I suspect there are probably some driver incompatibilities keeping Windows from launching. If the former, is your SATA drive in the same mode (IDE, PATA, or AHCI) as your previous computer? When you get to the repair screen, which options do you choose? Have you tried just to repair the boot options, or are you repairing Windows itself? Here's something I would try also (which you may have already done); may not fix it, but worth a try.

Might be worth reading this? Windows Error Recovery Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. https://neosmart.net/wiki/startup-repair-infinite-loop/

So....if it will boot up with the new 1TB drive, why not simply make that the C drive and make the old C drive the new D drive?
You stated you got a new MB, PS, RAM, CPU, and 1TB HD with W7 installed. hey... go in that direction..... That's exactly what I did on one of my older machines..... I installed the old C drive as D and removed the OS from that drive.
Your software will run from any drive on the machine. All you would need to do is link the data base for BB & RB to their new drive designations and save it.
I'd take the easy way out.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

That's what occurred to me last night while trying to get to sleep. Makes sense to just use the new (1) terrabyte drive as the C: drive. Obviously, I was trying to mitigate having to re-install everything again. Jford & husker....thank you both for offering some help. I have a loooong day a head of me....thanks again everyone. A good day to all....

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
