No. It's a single instance single instrument synth with Biab. But in a DAW that has multiple midi ports (Biab only has one) you can put the SFZ onto separate tracks as separate instances and each one can have a different instrument. That's still not like the Forte Dxi or Coyote Wavetable where you simply select it and hit play.

GM synth choices have been very limited for years because nobody except basic Biab users cares about GM. GM is primarily used over the internet where you send a GM midi file to your friend or you click on a midi link in your browser and it plays using the built in Windows sound.

I am not sure if I am reading this correctly, please correct me if I have misinterpreted what you have written.

Since receiving my BIAB 2017 I have been able to place the sforzando player on several tracks using a different instrument on each track as per this shot of the mixer:

In fact, on the strings track I put Sampletank 2.5 and it played perfectly alongside the other instruments.

Yes this works great. It is a bit more tedious than just using a GM approach. However, sforzando can convert soundfont (SF2) files directly to SFZ format by just drag-n-drop. So, you can use any of the available SF2 files you find in the wild.

Today I am starting to build up a set of SF2 packages that I like to use together for various styles. A tool called SF2Splitter will break out individual instruments/effects from a soundfont library so you can create your packages without wading through 100s of files you do not use.

SForsando sfz will also play or impart and play your Garritan libraries (becasue Garritan uses it it's player anyway); Dimension Pro sounds (Dim Pro is essentially a soundfont player itself), Finale default banks,

and there are free GM banks (good and bad) out there a little Googling will call them

example only https://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont

with a SF editor (more googling) you can make your own as well

Tim, if you are going to have 16 separate sforzando players you may want to consider one of these free sfz/sf2 players that can have 16 different sounds (multitimbral) playing at the same time. Just load 16 different sfz/sf2 patches into them:

http://www.soundzone.info/content/sfz-player

http://www.tx16wx.com/

If you are working with only sf2s then this soundfont bank manager will let you pick individual sf2s from one bank and copy them into another bank, even a custom bank that you are making:

http://soundfont-bank-manager.software.informer.com/

Note there are a lot of free sf2 players out there so just google/bing for them.

Personally if I were going to use sf2 sounds I would use a sf2 player and not a sfz player as the sound will be the same in both. I would use a sfz player for only sfz sounds. YMMV.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

First, what Mario said.

However, Mario I don't think that first one Sfz+ Pro is available anymore.

It's been owned by CW for sometime and there is no longer a link (did I miss it?) to download or buy it anymore (unless you ALREADY owned and have it on your products list - like myself and you, I assume)

Thanks for the tips. Personally I prefer one type of softare for multiple tasks if there are no other differences.

Also, be careful where you download software from. Places like http://software.informer.com/ often contain malware loaded versions. This is especially true of old software that the company nolonger supports; such as SoundFont Bank Manager from Creative Technology Ltd.

TX16Wx Software Sampler looks like a fun toy if you are going to be working with your own samples. But I am not sure I see and advantage to using it in this case.

Can somebody graciously offer any factual, real hands-on experience using any GM/GS compatible sounfont/SFZ bank that can be used with Sforzando and sound so good that you would personally recommend it over others?

I'm completely new to this "Sforzando/Soundfont game, so I desperately need experienced guidance with this.

Good folk of the BIAB forum, don't be shy; I'm open to suggestions.

I'm all ears, folk!

Well? Any takers?

Yes I have SFX+. Because it is so old and a freebe I think that I can legally share it with others. Let me know if you are interested and/or if you find out that this is illegal.

Yes, be very careful when DLing any free software. I run Defender and Anti-malwarebytes prior to installation then again after installation. I also run cCleaner then Programs and Features to see if anything else has been installed. A big PITA but it needs to be done.

Like I said already have it, and like I also said - it is no longer available, at least from CW.

Sharing it with others however is your call

Again GOOGLE is your friend (as Bob would say)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UwhEyxFrns

related info

https://schristiancollins.wordpress.com/2016/03/02/using-soundfonts-in-2016/

Back to your question, personally NO, none I would recommend ALL BY ITSELF, especially with all the free VSTi's out there BUT the SGM V2 (referenced above) comes pretty close!

if you wanted SYMPHONIC sounds sans GM try Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OEtipiurSU

etc. (again Google is your friend)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
