Currently I am using Microsoft outlook 2007 on my laptop and it served me well when I was actively in the work force. Now that I am retired I am looking for free or nominally cost software to send and receive emails. This would be installed on my desktop. Are there any suggestions by users out there. Thanks, DennisD

+1 for Thunderbird
I used Eudora for years (paid version) and it eventually was orphaned.
Since T-Bird is free - open source (donations appreciated) I decided to give it a try.
As expected, it took a bit of adjustment to get used to the different interface, but it was just a matter of finding the features and fine-tuning them to my desires.

Anaother +1 for Thunderbird. I have been using Thunderbird for a number of years now. I also use Firefox from the same company. Both are excellent products.

I've used Thunderbird since pretty much forever (I've got Thunderbird email archives going back to about 1997 or so - actually, it started off as Netscape Mail before AOL bought out NetScape). It also includes a calendar add-in that will sync with Gmail calendar, and it has it's own address book, so it's pretty full featured. And it's free. But it doesn't look like Outlook, so there may be a small learning curve.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
