Girl You're Just A Mess

Girl You’re Just A Mess
© 2016 Kenny Leverett

Stole a Strat guitar and got a band
Took the spotlight, now you’re in demand
I learned a thing or two from watching you
Promise a lot of love but never will be true
Promise a lot of love yeah girl that’s what you do

There was a moment you let me in
I think you needed a real friend
Changed like the weather and broke my heart
Got cold indifference down to an art

Such a rising star such a success
But I know your secret girl, you’re just a mess

The lights are flashing the club is hot
All eyes are on you girl to see what you got
Slither and shake you move so well
These little followers are under your spell

So outrageous, sweetheart of the press
But I know your secret girl, you’re just a mess
I think I hear your Momma callin’

I know your cuts all run deep
And I know that you’re losing sleep
You can’t get yer Daddy’s love
It must be awful tough

Such a rising star such a success
But I know your secret girl, you’re just a mess

This is the Voltage Style featuring Shannon Forrest on drums.
I added 586 Background Blues Harmonica and my guitar parts.
(had stopped writing for awhile, couldn't resist this groove)

Kenny,

This is a GREAT rock write!

"Stole a Strat guitar and got a band
Took the spotlight, now you’re in demand"

Great start!

"Changed like the weather and broke my heart
Got cold indifference down to an art"

Killer couplet!!!

"Slither and shake you move so well
These little followers are under your spell"

Nice alliteration.

Your 2 line chorus is killer, too. And the change the 2nd time around ("So outrageous, sweetheart of the press...") makes it that much better...

And...man! you killed that vocal! - your best ever (and they are ALWAYS good...) That is heart-and-soul singin'!

Nice guitar touches. I did want those drums up just a tad.

So glad to see a 44kfl post again.... I remain a fan.

Floyd said it all, and better than I could. Wonderful!! Just a fantastic rocker! Love the guitar, vocal, harmonica, THE MIX, and of course, the write. I've been wondering when we'd hear from you again, and am psyched that your back. You should never stop writing. You're a great writer. Love hearing your stuff. Welcome back Kenny!!!! Take care. Great song! It caught me with the title, kept me with the intro, and will have me listening to it over and over with the rest - thanks for posting!

Just raggedy enough to rock on the intro. The vocal has just enough hair on the edges to really cut through. I like the 123 stop and the oohs. Nice touches. A great performance. You're a great singer and writer. Merry Christmas. Tom

Hi Kenny,

Very interesting lyrics and cool 'tough' sounding rock song!

Kenny, this song has a tremendous amount of energy to it. I immediately was thinking of Small Faces and then morphed into the Stones. It's like they got together and wrote a song and Rod stepped out of the way and let Mick take over. Your talent is on display! Thanks, Torrey

Always good to hear your songs, keep them coming.

I must have a look at the voltage style after hearing this.
This need more than one play.

All the best for Christmas

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
