So much to like here! The backstory is a great read unto itself. Janice's usual stellar vocal, Bud's great mix and fabulous bass playing. More of that please. The thing I like the most is the pre Bluegrass song form- no chorus. This is like a song that was brought to Appalachia from the people who settled there. An educational and an effective updated period piece. You two continue to amaze us all. Merry Christmas, Tom

Even the song structure is how it used to be. You sure have put a lot of work into this, but it has paid off big time!

Times must have been tough for Clint and Sanford. I can just imagine how much pleasure they got from their Saturday night sessions. Imagine what they would say now if they could hear your song?

It's also a great production and I love Janice's vocal. It reminds me a lot of Linda Ronstadt.

Brilliant work,
Jez

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! And thanks for taking the time to listen and comment on so many different aspects of the production. Yes, we do wish they could hear it.

Janice said she was thrilled just to be mentioned in the same sentence with Linda!

We deeply appreciate it all.

Stunning song and great background story. Enjoyed your concept.

I've had an old tape of my Mom and her sisters playing 'Cotton eyed Joe' back in 1957 at the old homeplace in the mountains where they all were raised. I've given thought since I've been using BIAB to trying to do something with it the same as you've done here but no inspirational lyrics have ever escaped the maze of my muddled mind.

Being able to relate to the authenticity of your song made my listening that much more enjoyable.

Impressive write and production.

Bud and Janice,

I always love your songs... but I think I like the write-ups about what led you to write the songs every bit as much!

Once again, This proves your amazing ability to whip automated tracks into a form that flows the way a live band would likely play the song. I hate that I missed the era when you and Janice were playing live on stage... but I'm glad that I haven't missed what you're doing here on the user showcase. Kudos to both of you for your separate and combined talents.

Hi Janice and Bud,

I wholeheartedly agree with Josie. She describes it so well. The mix is astounding.... crystal clear. I don't know what you've done but it's really something.

I enjoyed listening and was with the song every step of the way. Janice's vocals are perfect and the writing and arranging showcase the story beautifully. It's just great how music can capture a period in time and store memories for generations to remember. You've both done such an all-round great job.

All the best of Christmas to you both,
Noel

No one does details better than "Bud Merritt - Producer/Arranger/Mix Engineer".

It has gotten to the point that Janice's pitch-perfect vocals are taken for granted... and yet, must be applauded with each new performance.

An excellent write. The attention to detail worming it's way into that aspect as well...

Great bass!!! What a cool thing to be able to add...

Standing O. An achievement.

Thanks for everything above. And, one thing we don't take for granted is how important your friendship and support has been to us on this four year musical journey. There is nothing about this production that doesn't reflect your counsel over the years. Your comment about the vocal means a lot to Janice and referencing the attention to detail in the production makes Bud think the ole dog may have learned a trick or two smile

Charlie, do it. I put this off for a long time because of the same reason. We even created a completely different version of it years ago that I never liked. Finally, I said it's gonna happen. Your tape is priceless. We need to hear it sometime! Thanks for the kind remarks. It means a lot.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
