Dearest Josie,

Does that hold out hopes of seeing/hearing you again?

You made many friends of we fossils. That's about 100 new fans.

It would be fantastic if Danny and other PGers could join in and do a full weekend HootenDonny. Danny has arrangements with brand new hotel manager to trade entertainment for deluxe lodging. It's very nice hotel where Danny and Linda stayed. Danny is always in perpetual sales and bargaining mode.

Hope you and Megz can catch Danny's Concert Window show on Saturday evening. He's a fabulous entertainer. (Don't tell him I said that)!

Hi Donny. I am not too sure if I will make it out to Oklahoma this trip. It will probably only be a week trip and will probably just drive up to Lake George from NY (we fly Joburg NY direct)...sorry frown

In the time that I've been active on the forum, there have been a number of small meetings between forum members... usually isolated connections between two forum friends and their spouses.

We've talked about a group meeting on and off for years, but in the past we always started the dialog too late and people already had other plans made... so interest gave way to schedules and those get-togethers failed to materialize.

This time we learned from past discussions and started the dialog more than a year in advance, which gives everybody a heads-up as they start to plan the coming year. It's hard to tell how many will actually show up, but it's looking like it will turn into the largest assembly of BIAB forum members to date! Really... anything over TWO will be the largest ;-)

There was talk last year of having something near BIAB HQ, but it was one of the times when we started planning too late and the weekend that worked for some didn't work for others. Also, this year the majority of interested parties were closer to the east coast than the west coast.

I do think there is enough interest among the west coast contingency that if another meeting to be held on Vancouver Island was planned far enough in advance, there would be enough participation to make it work. Maybe the 2018 BIAB forum west coast bash? I'd probably fly cross country for that! ;-)

Pat, I would do that once (go to Victoria) and hopefully meet PG Music staff as well as other users. Maybe for that one, we could have a few presentations/workshops.

You're really doing a great job rallying folks for next year!

For anyone who is going get your reservations in NOW! I am finding that a lot of places are already booked solid.

Our situation is probably very different from many of yours as we are also celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary so we are staying in a family suite at The Villas on Lake George for a week. It's a little out of town but it was the only one that I found available that was suited for us. YMMV.

But the bottom line is get your reservations in now.

Will this be broadcast on Periscope or anywhere? The logistics of being 8 hours away with a car that drives from gas station to gas station is likely going to be a deal breaker for me. The 1000 mile round trip would cost me $175 in gas alone. Then room, food, paying my baby (dog) sitter... Just can't afford it. I hate to not be there though. Thus the wonder about broadcasting.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

OK, time to bump this back to the top again... Mario contacted me a few days ago and mentioned that he had a heck of a time finding a vacancy, and he reinforced the fact that anybody who wants to attend this BIAB FORUM GET-TOGETHER at Lake George on July 25 2017 needs to make their reservations ASAP! Like yesterday!

Some people may want to find accommodations near other BIAB friends, so if you have made your reservations, it would be helpful to others if you post where you're staying and if there were still vacancies when you made your reservations.

I just made reservations at:
Hampton Inn & Suites Lake George
2133 Route 9,Lake George, NY, US 12845
844-236-4282 (website posted in one of the messages above)

I got a room with 2 queen sized beds and a couch, so there's room for somebody else who's willing to share the costs. If others stay at this same place it would be easy to connect and hang out.

I only booked it for 2 days, arriving on July 24 and checking out on the 26th. Anybody who wants to share the room should contact me privately. (First come, first served!) Its good to know that the Hampton Inn rents by the day, they aren't limited to full week rentals as some resort rentals are.

The Hampton Inn has an online booking page, and when I made my reservations there were still other rooms available... so... your call.

If you search online for accommodations, "Lake George" probably makes the search too large. Try BOLTON LANDING as a search phrase, and you'll end up closer to where Matt will be playing.

Anyway... this is a fun and exciting adventure for anybody who still has a desire for fun and adventure! I hope that more people get involved!

After Eddie posted this, Matt contacted me by email to say that there is no WIFI where they will be playing... so the concert itself can't be streamed in real time. However, I expect that people in attendance will video some or all of the show, and post it to youtube... so... the answer is both "yes" and "no". There will almost certainly be a video record of the event, but not in real time that allows viewers to interact with the participants.

Thanks Pat. Great advice. A good friend who used to take me out of the upper rounds of tennis tournaments runs that Hampton. It is just behind one of only two remaining Howard Johnson restaurants in the world.

For fifty plus years, people ask me if I will record my concerts. I don't have any objection if others do, but my answer is always that I do not. The nature of what I want to create with my band is the spontaneity of a jazz cabaret. We do not rehearse. We are not 'tight'. We have a train wreck or two per concert, always fun for the audience to watch. I tell the players to have fun and go for it, so I count it off and whatever happens, happens. What this means is I value the live experience over revisiting the mistakes that will inevitably mar a recording (pun intended).

Hope that gives you a feel for my thinking about recording.

2 miles from my house, 5 miles from Bolton Landing, 4 miles from Lake George Village. On the water, of course.

BUMP!

Mario reminded me that this hasn't been bumped to the top lately, and we don't want it to get lost in the avalanche of other posts on this very active forum!

If you plan to come, you probably want to nail down some kind of lodging ASAP. The place I rented would accommodate probably 2 more people., so if you want to share costs with me, send me a PM.

This forum is unique in a lot of ways. It's not just a place to get information. Its the modern equivalent of a social club. People here are friends you've never met.

Its also an older group, and as such we won't be around forever. Some who used to be regulars are already gone. This might be the last time a concerted effort is made to gather BIAB forum friends together in one place!

Nearly everybody takes a vacation. Above and beyond being an opportunity to meet your forum friends, Lake George is a first class resort area, well worth squandering your annual vacation time to see it one time in your life.

Plus you'll get to hear Matt perform! And with a little luck, maybe his talented wife too!

Hey, thanks so much! I presume you mean this video that Pat posted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B0Rg7VJgbk

The funny thing about that is, we were sight-reading this song in that concert. I had just written it to feature our guitarist, Jeff Ciampa. Joel took a terrific drum solo there, I agree.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
